Enhanced mitochondrial activity reshapes a gut microbiota profile that delays NASH progression

open access: yesHepatology, EarlyView., 2022
Improved mitochondrial activity, due to the lack of methylation‐controlled J protein (MCJ), creates a specific microbiota signature that when transferred through cecal microbiota transplantation delays NASH progression by restoring the gut‐liver axis and enhancing hepatic fatty acid oxidation.

Systematic analysis of the sugar accumulation mechanism in sucrose- and hexose- accumulating cherry tomato fruits

open access: yesBMC Plant Biology, 2022
Background Sugar content is an important indicator of fruit quality. Except for a few wild tomato species that accumulate sucrose in the fruits, most cultivated tomato species accumulate hexose.

Alternative Substrate Metabolism in Yarrowia lipolytica

open access: yesFrontiers in Microbiology, 2018
Recent advances in genetic engineering capabilities have enabled the development of oleochemical producing strains of Yarrowia lipolytica. Much of the metabolic engineering effort has focused on pathway engineering of the product using glucose as the ...

Re-examination of hexose-transporter inhibition and labelling by hexose isothiocyanates [PDF]

open access: yesBiochemical Journal, 1987
We have re-examined hexose-transport inhibition by hexose isothiocyanates and find that the inhibition is incomplete, probably because of decomposition of the reagent. The inhibition type is ‘mixed’, because hexose-transporter ligands such as maltose and cytochalasin B only give partial protection from inhibition.

Content and composition of pentose in buckwheat flour (Fagopyrum esculentum Moench)

open access: yesActa Agriculturae Slovenica, 1998
The total pentose quantity in buckwheat flour of cvs. Siva, Darja, Petra and Bednja 4n was determined using the volumetric bromide-bromate method. The Molisch test was used to determine the presence of carbohydrates in hydrolysates (72% H2SO4) and, in ...

The Haemophilus influenzae HMW1C protein is a glycosyltransferase that transfers hexose residues to asparagine sites in the HMW1 adhesin. [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS Pathogens, 2010
The Haemophilus influenzae HMW1 adhesin is a high-molecular weight protein that is secreted by the bacterial two-partner secretion pathway and mediates adherence to respiratory epithelium, an essential early step in the pathogenesis of H.

Structure and composition of sulfatides isolated from livers of patients with metachromatic leukodystrophy: galactosyl sulfatide and lactosyl sulfatide

open access: yesJournal of Lipid Research, 1974
The livers of four patients with metachromatic leukodystrophy contained galactosyl sulfatide and lactosyl sulfatide, whereas these substances were undetectable in normal human liver.

Theoretical study on the glycosidic C–C bond cleavage of 3’’-oxo-puerarin

open access: yesScientific Reports, 2023
Puerarin, daidzein C-glucoside, was known to be biotransformed to daidzein by human intestinal bacteria, which is eventually converted to (S)-equol. The metabolic pathway of puerarin to daidzein by DgpABC of Dorea sp. PUE strain was reported as puerarin (

PGF2α levels in Day 8 blood plasma are increased by the presence of one or more embryos in the uterus

open access: yesAnimal, 2015
In cattle, the detection of very early endometrial responses is considered to be hampered by the presence of only a single embryo. Therefore, we have previously developed a model of multiple embryo transfer to circumvent this hindrance.
