Phosphonomethyl analogues of hexose phosphates [PDF]
The analogue of fructose 1,6-bisphosphate in which the phosphate group, -O-PO3H2, on C-6 is replaced by the phosphonomethyl group, -CH2-PO3H2, was made enzymically from the corresponding analogue of 3-phosphoglycerate. It was a substrate for aldolase, which was used to form it, but not for fructose 1,6-bisphosphatase.

Sugar metabolism and accumulation in the fruit of transgenic apple trees with decreased sorbitol synthesis. [PDF]
Both sorbitol and sucrose are synthesized in source leaves and transported to fruit for supporting fruit growth in tree fruit species of the Rosaceae family.

Transport of sucrose, not hexose, in the phloem
Several lines of evidence indicate that glucose and fructose are essentially absent in mobile phloem sap. However, this paradigm has been called into question, especially but not entirely, with respect to species in the Ranunculaceae and Papaveraceae. In

A Synergistic Inhibitor Development Strategy Against Human UDP‐Galactose‐4‐Epimerase
The epimerase GalE is crucial for the biosynthesis of cancer‐relevant O‐GalNAc glycans. Here, we employ orthogonal, structurally enabled small molecule fragment screens to yield both covalent and non‐covalent inhibitors against GalE within no more than 22 elaborated compounds.

Studies of molecular mechanisms integrating carbon metabolism and growth in plants [PDF]
Plants use light energy, carbon dioxide and water to produce sugars and other carbohydrates, which serve as stored energy reserves and as building blocks for biosynthetic reactions.

Endo or Exo? The first quantitative kinetic mapping of the nucleophilic reactivity of endo‐ and exo‐glycal compounds highlighted that endo‐glycals are typically 102 times less reactive than their corresponding parent cyclic enol ethers while exo‐glycals are 103 more nucleophilic. This experimental and computational structure–reactivity study highlights
