Total Synthesis of the L-Hexoses

Science, 1983
Enantiomerically pure polyhydroxylated natural products are synthesized by using a reiterative two-carbon extension cycle consisting of four steps. The generality and efficiency of this methodology are demonstrated in the total synthesis of all eight L-hexoses.

Estimation of hexose diphosphate

Archives of Biochemistry and Biophysics, 1954
Abstract A new method based on the anthrone reaction is proposed for the quantitative determination of hexose diphosphate in order to eliminate the uncertain fructose equivalent. The method can he used for determination of hexose diphosphate of 5–400 μg. with an experimental error for a duplicate determination of 2.4%.

Sodium-hexose interactions

Philosophical Transactions of the Royal Society of London. B, Biological Sciences, 1971
Abstract Hexose and sodium can interact in the columnar epithelial cells of the intestine at various levels (a) in changing availability of energy, (b) at transport sites, (c) at the coupling mechanism between metabolism and transport or the coupling between Na transport and hexose transport.

On the Origin of Elementary Hexoses

The Quarterly Review of Biology, 1996
A possible scenario on the origin of elementary hexoses (fructose, glucose, mannose, and galactose) is proposed: (1) Formol reaction, an autocatalytic polymerization reaction, occurred on the primitive earth under weakly alkaline conditions to generate various small molecular compounds.

A method for the microanalysis of hexoses in glycoproteins

Carbohydrate Research, 1990
A procedure has been developed by which less than micrograms quantities of hexoses in glycoproteins can be determined by g.l.c.-m.s. with selected-ion monitoring of the alditol acetates derived from the sugars released by acid hydrolysis. The effectiveness of the method was demonstrated by determination of the hexose and hexosamine composition of 5 ...

The fermentation of hexoses

1983
Lactic acid bacteria ferment glucose either, via the glycolytic system, or via the hex-ose-monophosphate shunt. Glycolysis is the pathway of glucose fermentation in the homofermentative lactic acid bacteria, which produce lactic acid and small amounts of by-products (Fig. 3.2 and Table 3.1).

Different Tastes of Enantiomorphic Hexoses

Science, 1962
Studies of synthetic iron sulfides formed from aqueous solution at 25 degrees C and atmospheric pressure have revealed the existence of a new phase, tetragonal FeS. This phase is formed as the initial corrosion product of metallic iron or steel in solutions of hydrogen sulfide. It has been discovered as an iron corrosion product in the sediments of the

Isomerases for biotransformation of D-hexoses

Applied Microbiology and Biotechnology, 2015
Monosaccharides are polyhydroxyl compounds containing several chiral carbons, giving rise to tens of isomeric forms. Only minority of them are natural carbohydrates existing in nature abundantly, and most of them are rarely in nature, called rare sugars.

Nucleotide diphosphate hexose pyrophosphatases

Biochemical and Biophysical Research Communications, 1966
Abstract In the course of examining several nucleotide diphosphate sugar pyrophosphorylases in extracts of E. coli and Salmonella , we noted the presence of several nucleotide diphosphate sugar pyrophosphatases. These enzymes are of interest because they are inactive in freshly prepared sonic extracts.

Activation of hexose transport by antibody

Canadian Journal of Biochemistry and Cell Biology, 1984
In our attempts to study alterations in cell behaviour by membrane perturbations, the effects of specific antisera on membrane functions were examined. The present communication reports the nature and kinetics of the changes in hexose transport as a result of treatment of L6 rat myoblast cells with specific antibodies.
