Laser-induced fluorescence on Hg+ in Hg-Ar discharges

Applied Physics Letters, 1991
The density of ground-state mercury ions in the cathode region of a fluorescent-lamp-like discharge is measured using laser-induced fluorescence (LIF) at 194.2 nm. LIF is used to make relative density measurements with good spatial resolution and a wide dynamic range while a previously reported absorption technique is used to provide the absolute ...

Hyperfine Structure, Isotope, and Isomer Shifts in Hg^193m, Hg^194, Hg^195m, and Hg^195—Comments on the Paper of Kleiman and Davis*

Journal of the Optical Society of America, 1963
An analysis has been made of the discrepancies between the hfs and isotope shift results for Hg194, Hg195, and Hg195m of Kleiman Davis [ J. Opt. Soc. Am.53, 822 ( 1963)] and our data, particularly in view of the importance of these results for our interpretation of the odd–even staggering effect in isotope shift [ W.J. T. H.H. S. , Phys. Rev. Crystal growth of HgS from Hg-rich solutions

Journal of Crystal Growth, 1969
Abstract A technique for growing single crystals of α-HgS from Hg-rich solutions was developed. The optimal maximum temperature and cooling rate for obtaining large, non-strained single crystals was determined. It was found that Ge, Se, Te, HgSe, HgTe and ZnTe impurities are not able to bring the β-HgS → α-HgS phase transition down to the room ...

The Volume of Liquid Hg–Tl and Hg–Cs Alloys

Journal of the Physical Society of Japan, 1982
The molar volume and the thermal expansion coefficient of liquid Hg–Tl and Hg–Cs alloys were measured by a picnometer method. The molar volume of liquid Hg–Tl alloys varies almost linearly with concentration, and that of liquid Hg–Cs alloys shows large negative deviations from the linear variation.

Hyperfine Structures, Isotope Shifts, and Nuclear Moments of Hg^195, Hg^195m, and Hg^194†

Journal of the Optical Society of America, 1963
The hyperfine structures of five lines in the optical spectra of Hg195, Hg195m, and Hg194 have been investigated under high resolution. The nuclear moments, calculated from ratios of hyperfine splittings, are μ(195m) = −1.060 ± 0.01 nm, Q(195m) = 1.5 ± 1 b, and μ(195) = +0.526 ± 0.005 nm. Isotope shifts measured relative to Hg196 were found to be Δ(195–

Hg–Hg bonding and its influence on the stability of (HgS)n clusters

Physical Chemistry Chemical Physics
Pulsed laser ablation of HgS(s) shows the formation of (HgS)n=2–4+, HgSn=1–8±, and HgmSn± cluster ions. Theoretical analysis evidences that Hg–Hg interaction plays a vital role in the stability of (HgS)n and validates experimental observation.

Experimental studies of Hg(II)-Hg(0) transformations and their effects on Hg isotope fractionation

2019
Understanding the redox transformations of inorganic forms of mercury (Hg) is necessary for understanding the fate of mercury in environmental systems. In this study, the interactions of Hg(0) and Hg(II) with organic and inorganic substances were characterized using mercury stable isotopes.

Diffusion of Pb and Hg in Dilute Pb: Hg Alloys

Physical Review B, 1973
The diffusion of Pb and Hg was measured in Pb: Hg alloys of up to 8-at.% mercury between 200 and 300 \ifmmode^\circ\else\textdegree\fi{}C by the serial-sectioning technique. The diffusion of mercury in pure lead is well described by ${D}_{\mathrm{Hg}}={D}_{0}{e}^{(\ensuremath{-}\frac{{H}_{\mathrm{Hg}}}{\mathrm{RT}})}$, where ${D}_{0}=1.05\ifmmode\pm ...
