Chromosomally Integrated HHV-6
2014Herpesviruses are members of a diverse family of viruses that colonize all vertebrates from fish to mammals. Interestingly, certain oncogenic herpesviruses such as the Marek's disease virus can be found integrated at low frequencies in the host's chromosomes.

Journal of Virological Methods, 1988
Methods for the purification of enveloped HHV-6 virions and the viral DNA are presented. The viral genome is estimated to be 170,000 base pairs in size and does not appear to contain inversions due to absence of submolar bands by restriction enzyme analyses.

Blood, 2011
Human herpesvirus 6 (HHV-6) is recognized as a sporadic cause of encephalitis in hematopoietic cell transplantation (HCT) recipients. In this issue of Blood, Zerr and coworkers report on a 3.5-year prospective study of 315 patients undergoing allogeneic HCT. 1 Patients with HHV-6 were more likely to develop delirium and neurocognitive decline.

HHV-6 antigen and HHV-6 DNA expression in sporadic adenomatous polyps of the colon
Scandinavian Journal of Gastroenterology, 2013BACKGROUND. Human herpesvirus-6B (HHV-6B) antigens are commonly found in the intestinal mucosa of patients with immunosuppression. In a series of immunocompetent patients with adenomatous, polyp HHV-6B antigen expression from mucosal biopsies was more intense than in biopsies taken from patients receiving immunosuppressive drugs because of kidney ...

Trends in Microbiology, 1998
The paper by Soldan et al. provides further evidence of a link between human herpesvirus 6 (HHV-6) and multiple sclerosis (MS). Serum from patients with relapsing and remitting MS had a greater incidence of immunoglobulin M (IgM) to an HHV-6 early viral antigen, p41/38, than normal serum or serum from patients with other neurological or inflammatory ...
