HHV‐8 infection: a model for reactivation and transmission

Reviews in Medical Virology, 2002
AbstractThe rapid pace of knowledge about HHV‐8 since its discovery has been one of the most exciting aspects of medical virology in the last decade. As outlined in this review, the discovery by Drs Chang and Moore of this virus has opened up a broad field of biology with interesting contrasts between current epidemiological data for Kaposi's sarcoma ...

HHV‐8 and AIDS‐related CNS lymphoma

Neurology, 1997
Human herpesvirus 8 (HHV-8), the Kaposi's sarcoma (KS)-associated herpesvirus, is closely related to the transforming Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) and may be detected in AIDS-related, EBV-containing, body-cavity-based lymphomas. Accordingly, we analyzed 27 EBV-positive, AIDS-related CNS lymphomas for HHV-8 sequences. Only one tumor yielded HHV-8 sequences;

HHV-8 infection in African children.

Herpes : the journal of the IHMF, 2004
Human herpesvirus 8 (HHV-8) is prevalent in Africa and parts of southern Europe, but less common elsewhere. It is analogous to its distant relative, the Epstein-Barr virus, in that it rarely causes disease in the immunocompetent host but is highly oncogenic when associated with immunosuppression or HIV-1 infection.
