Commodity trading is typically organized hierarchically: Large‐scale trade takes place at the global price system while individuals trade at local price systems within their countries. Agencies or trading houses establish the link between these different market places. In this paper, we devise a framework to study this type of hierarchical trade.

In resurgence, conventionally a target response is trained and then extinguished while some alternative response is reinforced. In the most common procedure, when the latter is extinguished, the former resurges. The present experiments examined resurgence after two responses were trained sequentially and subsequently extinguished.

To cope with the complexity of very large systems, it is not sufficient to divide them into simple pieces because the pieces themselves will either be too numerous or too large. A hierarchical modular structure is the natural solution. In this article we explain how that approach can be applied to software.

With the recent advances in surface fabrication technologies, condensation heat transfer has seen a renaissance. Hydrophobic and superhydrophobic surfaces have all been employed as a means to enhance condensate shedding, enabling micrometric droplet departure length scales.

Hierarchical Rules for a Hierarchical Classifier
2007A system of rule extraction out of a complex hierarchical classifier is proposed in this paper. There are several methods for rule extraction out of trained artificial neural networks (ANN's), but these methods do not scale well, i.e.results are satisfactory for small problems.

The authors use voting operators to transform the sets of voters' opinions in the form of individual binary relations into collective binary relations. The emphasis of the discussion is of Arrow's independence of irrelevant alternatives (''locality'') condition, extending a paper by \textit{J. A. Ferejohn} and \textit{P. C. Fishburn} [J. Econ.

AbstractA technique is presented for constructing an operating system as a hierarchical set of monitors. The hierarchy reflects and reinforces the system structure, and extends down to the system nucleus itself. The nucleus is in fact treated as a specialized monitor for handling the central processor. The technique has been used to write a small pilot

Artificial Intelligence (AI) methods are used to build classifiers that give different levels of accuracy and solution explication. The intent of this paper is to provide a way of building a hierarchical classifier composed of several artificial neural networks (ANN's) organised in a tree-like fashion.
