Multicollinearity in hierarchical linear models
Social Science Research, 2015This study investigates an ill-posed problem (multicollinearity) in Hierarchical Linear Models from both the data and the model perspectives. We propose an intuitive, effective approach to diagnosing the presence of multicollinearity and its remedies in this class of models.

Understanding Hierarchical Linear Models
Nursing Research, 2007Nurses practice within hierarchical organizations and occupational structures. Hence, data emanating from nursing environments are structured, often inherently, hierarchically. From the perspective of ordinary regression, such structuring constitutes a statistical problem because this violates the assumption that we have observed independent and ...

Hierarchical modeling using generalized linear models
Quality and Reliability Engineering International, 2011In a complex manufacturing environment, there are hundreds of interrelated processes that form a complex hierarchy. This is especially true of semiconductor manufacturing. In such an environment, modeling and understanding the impact of critical process parameters on final performance measures such as defectivity is a challenging task.

Fitting Linear Hierarchical Models
2011We now shift to the analysis of hierarchical data using mixed-effects models. These models are a natural match for many problems that occur commonly in natural resources. A number of the tools that we discuss in this chapter are extensively documented in Pinheiro and Bates (2000), and our goal is to complement that resource, not replace it. Although we

Hierarchical Decomposition in Linear Economic Models
Management Science, 1975In decomposed linear programming models it is generally not possible to decentralize by prices alone. The Dantzig-Wolfe procedure, for instance, delegates weights on basic solutions in addition to the equilibrium prices. In this paper we present a decomposition procedure for linear models where we in addition to prices delegate a hierarchical ordering.
