Fitting Linear Hierarchical Models
2011We now shift to the analysis of hierarchical data using mixed-effects models. These models are a natural match for many problems that occur commonly in natural resources. A number of the tools that we discuss in this chapter are extensively documented in Pinheiro and Bates (2000), and our goal is to complement that resource, not replace it. Although we

Hierarchical Decomposition in Linear Economic Models
Management Science, 1975In decomposed linear programming models it is generally not possible to decentralize by prices alone. The Dantzig-Wolfe procedure, for instance, delegates weights on basic solutions in addition to the equilibrium prices. In this paper we present a decomposition procedure for linear models where we in addition to prices delegate a hierarchical ordering.
