Hierarchical models for service-oriented systems [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
We present our approach to the denotation and representation of hierarchical graphs: a suitable algebra of hierarchical graphs and two domains of interpretations.

Dynamic Hierarchical Models

open access: yesJournal of the Royal Statistical Society Series B: Statistical Methodology, 1993
SUMMARY An analysis of a time series of cross-sectional data is considered under a Bayesian perspective. Information is modelled in terms of prior distributions and stratified parametric linear models developed by Lindley and Smith and dynamic linear models developed by Harrison and Stevens are merged into a general framework.

Les Misérables: An analysis of low SWB across the world

open access: yesFrontiers in Psychology, 2023
Global trends indicate that the prevalence of low subjective wellbeing is on the rise, though not all regions are equal in terms of both absolute levels and their trajectories.

Modelling hierarchical flocking

open access: yesNew Journal of Physics, 2019
Abstract We present a general framework for modeling a wide selection of flocking scenarios under free boundary conditions. Several variants have been considered—including examples for the widely observed behavior of hierarchically interacting units. The models we have simulated correspond to classes of various realistic situations.

Dissecting magnetar variability with Bayesian hierarchical models [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
Neutron stars are a prime laboratory for testing physical processes under conditions of strong gravity, high density, and extreme magnetic fields. Among the zoo of neutron star phenomena, magnetars stand out for their bursting behaviour, ranging from ...

Planned missing data designs and methods: Options for strengthening inference, increasing research efficiency and improving animal welfare in ecological and evolutionary research

open access: yesEvolutionary Applications, 2021
Ecological and evolutionary research questions are increasingly requiring the integration of research fields along with larger data sets to address fundamental local‐ and global‐scale problems.

On Horizontal and Vertical Separation in Hierarchical Text Classification [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
Hierarchy is a common and effective way of organizing data and representing their relationships at different levels of abstraction. However, hierarchical data dependencies cause difficulties in the estimation of "separable" models that can distinguish ...

Application of Hierarchical Spatial Autoregressive Models to Develop Land Value Maps in Urbanized Areas

open access: yesISPRS International Journal of Geo-Information, 2019
This article aims at testing the possibilities of applying hierarchical spatial autoregressive models to create land value maps in urbanized areas. The use of HSAR (Hierarchical Spatial Autoregressive) models for spatial differentiation of prices in the ...

Ignoring uncertainty in predictor variables leads to false confidence in results: a case study of duck habitat use

open access: yesEcosphere, 2020
An assumption of most regression analyses is that independent variables are measured without error. However, in ecological studies it is common to use independent variables that are derived from samples and therefore contain some uncertainty. For example,

Musical Expectancy. Bridging Music Theory, Cognitive and Computational Approaches [PDF]

open access: yesZeitschrift der Gesellschaft für Musiktheorie, 2013
This article contributes to an interdisciplinary discussion of ways in which music-theoretical, cognitive, and computational accounts of musical expectancy may be bridged.
