Very high cycle fatigue measuring techniques

International Journal of Fatigue, 2014
Abstract Ever since high-strength steels were found to fail below the traditional fatigue limit when loaded with more than 108 cycles, the investigation of metals’ and alloys’ very high cycle fatigue properties has received increased attention. A lot of research was invested in developing methods and machinery to reduce testing times.

Critical issues in high cycle fatigue

International Journal of Fatigue, 1999
High cycle fatigue (HCF) failures in materials used in rotating components of gas turbine engines have often been found to be attributable to fatigue loading on materials which have sustained damage from other sources. Damage can be present in the form of initial material or manufacturing defects, or can develop during service operation.

Small Cracks and High-Cycle Fatigue

Aerospace, 1996
Abstract The problem of high-cycle fatigue (HCF) failures that has recently plagued the aircraft jet-engine industry is associated with the rapid growth of small defects under the action of high-frequency vibrational or resonant loading; such defects have been associated with regions of microstructural damage attributed to such processes

Notch Effect in High Cycle Fatigue

2001
This paper presents a different approach for the estimation of fatigue life duration of notched shafts. The traditional approach, which is based on the notch radius and the stress concentration factor, is not applicable for all stress concentration geometries, for example shafts with key-seats.

Damage Mechanisms in High Cycle Fatigue

1999
Abstract : This program was designed to allow interaction between MURI investigators and Southwest Research Institute and to allow SwRI to perform independent research on high cycle fatigue mechanisms. The program goals were met. Two students performed experiments with the SwRI micromechanics facilities. Four manuscripts for publication are included in

Micromechanics of Crack Initiation in High-Cycle Fatigue

1991
The author presents some previous theories of fatigue crack, gating mechanism and the quantitative effects of mean stress, grain size, strain hardening, overload and creep on fatigue crack initiation. The paper is divided into seven sections entitled: (1) Introduction; (2) Dislocations and plastic strain; (3) Slip bands under monotonic loadings; (4) A ...
