Spin and Charge Control of Topological End States in Chiral Graphene Nanoribbons on a 2D Ferromagnet

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Chiral graphene nanoribbons on a ferromagnetic gadolinium‐gold surface alloy display tunable spin and charge states at their termini. Atomic work function variations and exchange fields enabe transitions between singlet, doublet, and triplet configurations.

Analysis and suppression of high-frequency oscillation in wind farm-MMC-HVDC interconnected system considering distribution characteristics of submarine cables

open access: yesInternational Journal of Electrical Power & Energy Systems
With the large-scale development of offshore wind power, modular multilevel converter-based high-voltage direct current (MMC-HVDC) has emerged as a pivotal grid integration solution, yet it is constrained by high-frequency oscillation issues in power ...

Resolving the Structural Duality of Graphene Grain Boundaries

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Cantilever ncAFM resolves the atomic structure of grain boundaries in graphene, revealing coexisting stable and metastable types. Both contain pentagon/heptagon defects, but metastable GBs show irregular geometries. Modeling shows metastable GBs form under compression, exhibiting vertical corrugation, while stable GBs are flat.

A new system for ventilating with high-frequency oscillation

open access: yes, 1982
We describe simple high-frequency oscillation systems that incorporate a CO2 absorber and supply O2 on a need basis. These systems have the advantage of easy control of mean airway pressure and airway hydration and negligible loss of oscillatory tidal ...

Analysis of high-frequency oscillation mechanism of inverter with motor load based on series resonance

open access: yesInternational Journal of Electrical Power & Energy Systems
Inverter-driven asynchronous motor loads represent typical operational scenarios in shipboard integrated power systems. The inverter’s output impedance characteristics are influenced by complex control dynamics, and the interaction between source and ...

Self‐Cooling Molecular Spin Qudits

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
A material made of [GdEr] molecular dimers can encode a qudit and perform as a magnetic refrigerant. Microwave resonant pulses coherently manipulate its 16 spin states, while direct demagnetization measurements cool the material and a device down to temperatures below 1 K.

Tuning Amorphous‐Crystalline Catalytic Interfaces by Mechanochemistry: Cu‐Based Metallic Glasses Coupled with Ceria for CO Oxidation

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Ball‐milling Cu‐based metallic glasses with ceria creates a unique nanostructure where metallic glass particles are wrapped by CeO2 nanoparticles. The intimate integration triggers copper state reorganization during reaction and aging, boosting CO oxidation and COPrOx activity.

Sharp wave-associated high-frequency oscillation (200 Hz) in the intact hippocampus: network and intracellular mechanisms

open access: yes, 1995
Sharp wave bursts, induced by a cooperative discharge of CA3 pyramidal cells, are the most synchronous physiological pattern in the hippocampus. In conjunction with sharp wave bursts, CA1 pyramidal cells display a high-frequency (200 Hz) network ...

A Functional 2D Carbon Allotrope Combining Nanoporous Graphene and Biphenylene Segments

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
The synthesis of a novel nanoporous graphene (NPG) is reported with biphenylene segments via thermal fusion of 12‐armchair porous graphene nanoribbons grown on gold surfaces. Characterization using STM, AFM, and DFT reveals low‐defect semiconducting behaviour and tunable band gaps.

A mechanism for high-frequency oscillation in ramjet combustors and afterburners [PDF]

open access: yes, 1956
An experimental investigation was made of the behavior of a small two-dimensional combustion chamber, burning a uniform mixture of air and fuel vapor under conditions of high-frequency oscillation or screech.
