After corn mechanical harvest in autumn in the cold region of northeast China, straw mulching leads to high soil topsoil water content and slow ground temperature rise in the spring sowing season, which may result in a no-tillage planter being unable to ...

Optimal irrigation water allocation using a genetic algorithm under various weather conditions [PDF]
Growing water scarcity, due to growing populations and varying natural conditions, puts pressure on irrigation systems, which often are the main consumptive water users.

Comparing Nematode Management Products on Corn in Strip Trials [PDF]
Plant-parasitic nematodes that feed on corn occur commonly in fields in Iowa and throughout the Midwest. Most nematodes do not reduce corn yields until population densities (numbers) increase to damaging levels and/or other stressful conditions occur in ...

Reducing Grain Damage in Moist Corn Threshing via Corncob Division
For the prompt planting of subsequent crops, most of China’s corn harvest must occur before full maturity, with a grain moisture content above 25%. Harvesting moist corn presents challenges due to significant grain damage during threshing. We conducted a

Update on 2014 Crop Quality [PDF]
It seems like a broken record...weather changes have shifted expectations of new crop corn quality. Three weeks ago, somewhat wetter corn than normal but high quality was the forecast.

Preservation of High-Moisture Corn: A Microbiological Evaluation
Abstract Ammonia, ammonium isobutyrate, isobutyric acid, and propionic-acetic acid at concentrations of .5%, 1.75%, 1.5%, and 1.2%, respectively, were applied to comparable 52.8m 3 lots of freshly harvested yellow dent corn having a moisture content of 27%. Treated corn was stored in partially open wooden bins.

High Moisture Corn for Dairy Cattle
Summary High moisture corn (HMC) has been used for dairy cattle feeding for some time. With cattle fed HMC, milk production, composition, body weight changes and growth of young animals were comparable to dry corn (DC) in most experiments. Preservatives such as organic acids, especially propionic acid, have improved the preservation of HMC.
