Reconstructing high-order surfaces for meshing
Engineering with Computers, 2010We consider the problem of reconstructing a high-order surface from a given surface mesh. This problem is important for many meshing operations, such as generating high-order finite elements, mesh refinement, mesh smoothing and mesh adaptation. We introduce two methods, called Weighted Averaging of Local Fittings (WALF) and Continuous Moving Frames ...

Current Opinion in Neurobiology, 1992
The past year has seen some important advances in our understanding of central auditory function. Several central auditory neurons that differ from those in the periphery in their selectivity for various spectral and temporal parameters of complex sound have been described.

4th International Symposium on Voronoi Diagrams in Science and Engineering (ISVD 2007), 2007
While techniques exist to compute three dimensional Voronoi diagrams and their higher-order and generalized cousins, visualizing Voronoi diagrams and their underlying distance functions remains challenging. In this paper we specifically consider visual representations that take the form of shapes or sculptures formed from three dimensional iso-surfaces.

HIGH ORDER STATISTICS FOR IMAGE CLASSIFICATION
International Journal of Neural Systems, 2001This paper addresses the problem of image classification using local information which is aggregated to provide global representation of different image classes. Local information is adaptively extracted from an image database using Independent Component Analysis (ICA) which provides a set of localized, oriented, and band-pass filters selective to ...

High-Order Multiple Gestations
Seminars in Perinatology, 2005Infertility treatments have produced an increase in multiple gestations with twins accounting for 3.3% of births in the United States in 2002. Over that same time period, premature deliveries increased from 10.7% in 1992 to 12.1% in 2002. High-order multiple gestations have also increased, and virtually all of those deliver prematurely.

Hierarchical Clustering with High Order Dissimilarities
2011This paper proposes a novel hierarchical clustering algorithm based on high order dissimilarities. These dissimilarity increments are measures computed over triplets of nearest neighbor points. Recently, the distribution of these dissimilarity increments was derived analytically.

Supercontinuum and High-Order Harmonics
2005Simple experiments, set up to investigate how the coherence properties of short and intense laser pulses are transferred to radiation generated in extremely nonlinear interactions with matter, have given access to a wealth of new information and have allowed unexpected advances in several different fields.
