Test procedure for very high speed spindle motors

Conference Record of the 1990 IEEE Industry Applications Society Annual Meeting, 1995
Abstract In the last ten years, the new power electronic devices and the new control techniques have allowed to open new application fields for adjustable speed/torque electrical drives. Although the traditional dc drives keep still the market supremacy, the new ac drives have performance really attractive and some additional benefits due to the ...

Cooling strategy and experiment of high-speed motorized spindle

2020 International Conference on Optoelectronic Materials and Devices, 2021
The motorized spindle generates heat during high-speed operation, and the thermal deformation caused by temperature rise will seriously affect the machining accuracy of the motorized spindle. Therefore, in order to reduce the influence of the heating of the motorized spindle on the machining performance, the temperature field distribution of the ...

A thermal model for high speed motorized spindles

International Journal of Machine Tools and Manufacture, 1999
Lack of a more complete understanding of the system characteristics, particularly thermal effects, severely limits the reliability of high speed spindles to support manufacturing. High speed spindles are notorious for their sudden catastrophic failures without alarming signs at high speeds due to thermal problems.

High speed vector control without encoder for a high speed spindle motor

Conference Record of the 1990 IEEE Industry Applications Society Annual Meeting, 2002
A 40000 RPM vector-controlled induction motor drive is introduced. In a previous paper by T. Kume et al. (see Proc. IPEC 1990 conf., Tokyo, p.1132-1136, 1990), conventional vector control with a shaft encoder was employed in a low-speed range, while constant V/f (volt-per-hertz) PWM control was employed in a high-speed range. The two control modes were

Development of a High Speed Induction Motor for Spindle Systems

IEEE Transactions on Magnetics, 2013
This paper deals with the analysis techniques of a high speed and high efficiency 10 kW, 30 000 rpm rated induction motor. The induction motor has been analyzed by the time-varying magnetic finite element method and the test results show that there is a possibility that the motor could be used in a high speed spindle system application.

Review on Lubrication and Sealing Technology of High-Speed Motorized Spindle

Recent Patents on Engineering, 2023
Background: While the CNC (Computerised Numerical Control) machine spindle is driving the tool to cut the workpiece, impurities such as cutting fluid splash, metal chips, or metal dust tend to enter the internal system of the spindle. Optimization of the spindle sealing design can significantly improve the durability of the motorized spindle.

Design of Hydraulic Motor Spindle for High Speed Machining

Recent Advances in Design for Manufacture (DFM), 2000
Abstract This paper presents the design of a hydraulic motor driven spindle for the processing of metals and composite materials at high rotational speeds. Existing technologies applicable to spindles and spindle holders under severe operating conditions were reviewed. A conceptual design of the hydraulic spindle system was developed.

Energy losses in the electric motor of a high-speed spindle

Russian Engineering Research, 2017
Means of increasing the energy efficiency of high-speed spindles for micromachining are considered. Methods of calculating the losses in the electric motor’s stator yoke for a high-speed spindle are analyzed. Recommendations are made for the minimization of such losses.

Bearing Loads Study for High-Speed Motorized Spindle

Key Engineering Materials, 2011
Due to high rotation accuracy, high dynamic stiffness, high vibration damping and long life, high-speed spindles supported by hydrodynamic and hydrostatic hybrid bearings are widely applied in the field of high-speed precision machine tools. The basic structure and working principal was detailed introduced, and then demonstrated a series of models and ...
