Efficient Raycasting of Volumetric Depth Images for Remote Visualization of Large Volumes at High Frame Rates [PDF]

open access: yes, 2023
We present an efficient raycasting algorithm for rendering Volumetric Depth Images (VDIs), and we show how it can be used in a remote visualization setting with VDIs generated and streamed from a remote server.

The (Glg)ABCs of cyanobacteria: modelling of glycogen synthesis and functional divergence of glycogen synthases in Synechocystis sp. PCC 6803

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We reconstituted Synechocystis glycogen synthesis in vitro from purified enzymes and showed that two GlgA isoenzymes produce glycogen with different architectures: GlgA1 yields denser, highly branched glycogen, whereas GlgA2 synthesizes longer, less‐branched chains.

Ligament Formation Induced by Cavitation in a Cylindrical Nozzle

open access: yesJournal of Fluid Science and Technology, 2008
Cavitation in a cylindrical nozzle and liquid jets discharged from the nozzle are simultaneously visualized using a high-speed camera to investigate the mechanism of liquid jet atomization induced by the fully-developed cavitation. Three mirrors are used

High-magnification shadowgraphy for the study of drop breakup in a high-speed gas flow

open access: yes, 2020
Direct observation of the droplet breakup process in high-speed gas flows is a critical challenge that needs to be addressed to elucidate the physical mechanisms underlying the fragmentation phenomenon.

Organ‐specific redox imbalances in spinal muscular atrophy mice are partially rescued by SMN antisense oligonucleotides

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We identified a systemic, progressive loss of protein S‐glutathionylation—detected by nonreducing western blotting—alongside dysregulation of glutathione‐cycle enzymes in both neuronal and peripheral tissues of Taiwanese SMA mice. These alterations were partially rescued by SMN antisense oligonucleotide therapy, revealing persistent redox imbalance as ...

Instant Slow-Motion Visualization of High-Speed Phenomena Based on Event Camera

open access: yesIEEE Access
High-speed phenomena are difficult to perceive due to human vision limitations, yet their immediate understanding is crucial in fields like sports refereeing and neurosciences.

Sliding Residual Network for High-Speed Target Detection in Additive White Gaussian Noise Environments

open access: yesIEEE Access, 2019
Facing high-speed targets, the traditional radar target detection framework may suffer from performance degradation due to the signal-to-noise ratio loss caused by Doppler mismatches, especially for phase coded waveforms.

Tau acetylation at K331 has limited impact on tau pathology in vivo

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We mapped tau post‐translational modifications in humanized MAPT knock‐in mice and in amyloid‐bearing double knock‐in mice. Acetylation within the repeat domain, particularly around K331, showed modest increases under amyloid pathology. To test functional relevance, we generated MAPTK331Q knock‐in mice.

Valosin‐containing protein counteracts ATP‐driven dissolution of FUS condensates through its ATPase activity in vitro

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Biomolecular condensates formed by fused in sarcoma (FUS) are dissolved by high ATP concentrations yet persist in cells. Using a reconstituted system, we demonstrate that valosin‐containing protein (VCP), an AAA+ ATPase, counteracts ATP‐driven dissolution of FUS condensates through its D2 ATPase activity.

Biophysical approaches for studying viral entry

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Viruses infect all living organisms and have been responsible for major epidemics and pandemics. Their ongoing evolutionary battle with host defenses creates a constant need for improved tools to study viral behavior. Advancing methods to probe viral attachment, fusion, and genome release deepen our understanding of how infections begin and support the
