Transfer Printing and Reconfiguration of Soft Electronics Using Digital Microfluidics and Laser Machining

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
This paper presents a digital microfluidics‐based technique for transferring and reconfiguring soft nanomembranes. Laser‐machined nanothin membranes are picked up, transported, and aligned via tailored surface tension and the actuation of water droplets, enabling the development of flexible electronics, the integration of functional materials on 3D ...

Near‐Infrared Light‐Driven Zn/Au Janus Micromotors for Multiplex SERS Detection of Anticancer Drugs

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Zn/Au Janus micromotors, propelled by thermophoretic effects under NIR light, function as active SERS platforms for single and multiplex detection of anticancer drugs. Their dynamic motion enhances analyte exchange at the Au interface, reducing saturation and competitive adsorption, thereby improving sensitivity and extending the linear detection range.

Experimental Results of a Newly Developed Very High Temperature Industrial Heat Pump (140°C) Equipped With Scroll Compressors and Working With a New Blend Refrigerant

open access: yes, 2012
During last decades more and more attention has been paid on CO2 emissions. One of the solutions for decreasing CO2 emissions concerns the substitution of fossil fuels industrial boilers by the use of very high temperature electrical heat pumps. Moreover,

Development of a pilot site for high temperature heat pumps, with high temperature mine thermal energy storage as heat source [PDF]

open access: yes, 2022
A pilot plant for high temperature heat pumps (HTHP’s) combined with high temperature mine thermal energy storage (HT-MTES) is developed at the Fraunhofer IEG location of Bochum. The aim of the plant is to inject renewable heat into the district heating (

A Technological Update on Heat Pumps for Industrial Applications

open access: yesEnergies
It is now widely confirmed by scientific evidence that greenhouse gas emissions must be reduced to counteract the effects of global warming. The production of heat for industrial purposes is responsible for 36.8% of world energy-related emissions due to ...

High-temperature heat pumps: Fundamentals, modelling approaches and applications

open access: yesEnergy
In March 2023, the European Parliament and Council reached a consensus to increRCiase the binding renewable energy target (RES) to a minimum of 42.5% by 2030, effectively doubling the proportion of RES from the 2020 baseline. This significant development aligns the EU more closely with the objectives of the European Green Deal and the REPowerEU ...

Ultrasensitive Anti‐Stokes Luminescence Thermometry in Transition Metal Dichalcogenide Monolayers

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
We demonstrate a highly sensitive nanothermometer using anti‐Stokes photoluminescence, also known as photoluminescence upconversion (UPL), in monolayer tungsten disulfide. A strong resonantly enhanced UPL is observed, confirming the central role of optical phonons in the PL upconversion mechanism.
