Identifying transcription factors controlling the basal expression of human MRP4 highlights a substantial role for Sp1

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
The MRP4 transporter exports several drugs and signaling molecules. Here, we identified key promoter elements regulating basal MRP4 expression. Using reporter assays, we defined a conserved region with essential Sp1 and contributory Ets sites, which controlled basal MRP4 expression.

Oxidation of Aluminium-Magnesium alloys at elevated temperature in the solid, semi-liquid and liquid states

open access: yes, 1987
This thesis was submitted for the degree of Doctor of Philosophy and awarded by Brunel University.Sensitive thermogravimetric equipment was used to monitor the oxidation rates of A1-1 to 9% Mg alloys in 0.21 oxygen/0.79 helium mixtures with and without 0.

Pharmacological inhibition of the PERK pathway modulates hepatocellular carcinoma growth and immune signaling

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Pharmacological inhibition of PERK in a DEN‐induced mouse model of liver cancer does not reduce tumor burden but alters cellular stress signaling. Despite blocking PERK activity, downstream stress responses, including CHOP expression, remain active, suggesting compensatory mechanisms within the unfolded protein response that may influence tumor ...

Effects of hydrogen on the corrosion resistance of metallic materials and semiconductors

open access: yes, 2006
For long time it is known that protons in aqueous solutions have a detrimental effect on metallic materials. Relatively recently, it has also been observed in aqueous solution that the pitting corrosion resistance of Cr, stainless steel 304 and 310 ...

Sudden anaerobization in Amphibacillus xylanus increases intracellular labile ferrous iron and inhibits cell growth

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Abruptly changing from aerobic to anaerobic conditions (sudden anaerobization) induced growth inhibition and a significant increase in intracellular labile ferrous iron in the aerotolerant anaerobe Amphibacillus xylanus. We found that free flavins mediate efficient electron transfer from NADH to ferric iron under anaerobic conditions, suggesting that ...

Time‐restricted feeding prior to Mycobacterium tuberculosis infection reduces tissue CD4+ T cells with limited impact on bacterial clearance

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Time‐restricted feeding (TRF) in mice increased liver fatty acid oxidation and decreased fatty acid biosynthesis. These alterations persisted when TRF was discontinued and the host was infected with Mycobacterium tuberculosis. Pre‐exposure to TRF did not alter tissue (lung and spleen) mycobacterial burden but significantly reduced CD3+ T cells in lungs

Analysis of High Temperature Oxidation Process and Mechanism of Heterogeneous Titanium Alloy

open access: yesCrystals
This study explores the differences in oxidation color, oxidation products, and high-temperature oxidation resistance between TA1 and Ti-6Al-4V (TC4) titanium alloys following a 50 h oxidation treatment at 450 °C and 750 °C.

Microstructural evolution of mechanically alloyed Ni-based alloys under high temperature oxidation [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
To further improve the cost-benefit of MCrAlX (X is a reactive element like Y, Hf, Ta, etc.) alloys, the microhardness, microstructure and oxidation behavior of two Ni-based alloys, Ni60Co30Al10 and Ni60Co10Cr20Al10 without reactive elements were studied
