Influence of the fiber diameter on the stress birefringence in high-birefringence fibers
Optics Letters, 1983The influence of the outer diameter of the constraining region on the stress-induced birefringence in high-birefringence fibers is investigated for three fiber structures. Generally, the outer diameter should be three times larger than the mean diameter of the stress-producing regions to ensure that the birefringence is close to maximum.

A study of photoinduced birefringence in bow-tie (stress-induced) high-birefringence (Hi-Bi) and low-birefringence (Lo-Bi) germanosilicate optical fibers is conducted by using 532-nm light. The study reveals that Hi-Bi fibers are insensitive to light polarized along the fast axis, in contrast to Lo-Bi fibers, which are photosensitive along both axes ...

PCF with low dispersion and high birefringence
2015 International Conference on Electrical, Electronics, Signals, Communication and Optimization (EESCO), 2015Photonic Crystal Fibers (PCFs) structure with unique arrangement of circular air holes has been investigated. The structure has circular air holes of different areas and those air holes are arranged in a unique fashion. Both TE and TM mode has shown zero dispersion. A very low loss and high birefringence was observed for the structure.

Photonic bandgap fibers with high birefringence
IEEE Photonics Technology Letters, 2002A highly birefringent air-guiding photonic crystal fiber which provides guidance by a full two-dimensional photonic bandgap (PBG) effect is proposed. The fiber core is formed by introducing a large air hole that has an area of four unit cells of the cladding materials.

Precise method for modifying birefringence of stress-induced high-birefringence fiber
Optics Letters, 2010A precise method for modifying the birefringence of stress-induced high-birefringence (Hi-Bi) fiber is demonstrated by side polishing a Panda-type fiber with a maximum polished length of at least 14 cm. The polishing depth is controlled with an accuracy of 0.1 microm by piezoelectric ceramic microdisplacement.

New Nematics with High Birefringence
Molecular Crystals and Liquid Crystals Science and Technology. Section A. Molecular Crystals and Liquid Crystals, 1995Abstract We prepared new compounds with the hexendiyne unit as central bridging group. The substances are nematic, with clearing temperatures much higher than those of other two ring compounds. They show the highest birefringence ever observed in liquid crystals, modest viscosities and medium dielectric anisotropy. Their stability in low polar mixtures
