Pushing Purcell-enhancement beyond its limits [PDF]

open access: yes, 2020
Purcell-enhanced emission from a coupled emitter-cavity system is a fundamental manifestation of cavity quantum electrodynamics. Starting from a theoretical description we derive a scheme for photon emission from an emitter coupled to a birefringent ...

High birefringence in elliptical hollow optical fiber

open access: yesOptics Express, 2004
We propose a novel design of highly birefringent optical fiber composed of a central elliptical air hole, a circumferential elliptical ring core, and a circular cladding. The proposed waveguide structure is predicted to produce a linear birefringence higher by an order of magnitude than the solid elliptical core fiber.

Research on a New Structure of High-Birefringence, Low-Loss Hollow-Core Photonic Bandgap Fibre

open access: yesPhotonics
Hollow-core microstructured optical fibres exhibit excellent properties, such as a low loss, tuneable high birefringence, and low nonlinearity, finding extensive applications across communications, industry, agriculture, medicine, military, and sensing ...

Multibeam Interferometer Using a Photonic Crystal Fiber with Two Asymmetric Cores for Torsion, Strain and Temperature Sensing

open access: yesSensors, 2017
We present a fiber-optic multibeam Mach-Zehnder interferometer (m-MZI) for simultaneous multi-parameter measurement. The m-MZI is comprised of a section of photonic crystal fiber integrated with two independent cores of distinct construction and ...

Birefringence and polarisation dispersion measurements in high-birefringence single-mode fibres

open access: yesElectronics Letters, 1987
We have measured by white-light crosscorrelation the polarisation mode dispersion of a polarisation-maintaining single-mode fibre and its variation with wavelength. The results have been confirmed by birefringence measurements and by birefringence modelling.

A nonlinear photonic crystal fiber for liquid sensing application with high birefringence and low confinement loss

open access: yesSensing and Bio-Sensing Research, 2019
This paper presents a nonlinear Photonic Crystal Fiber (PCF) based sensor to detect liquid analytes. An extensive analysis has been presented at wide range of wavelength (0.6 μm−1.6 μm) in order to investigate the impact of some design parameters.

A Hybrid Design for Frequency-Independent Extreme Birefringence Combining Metamaterials with the Form Birefringence Concept

open access: yesPhotonics
With advances in terahertz technology, achieving high and nearly constant birefringence over a wide frequency range plays an extreme role in many advanced applications.

Hydrostatic Pressure Sensing with High Birefringence Photonic Crystal Fibers

open access: yesSensors, 2010
The effect of hydrostatic pressure on the waveguiding properties of high birefringence photonic crystal fibers (HiBi PCF) is evaluated both numerically and experimentally.
