ACOUSTIC BIREFRINGENCE AT ELECTROMAGNETIC EXCITATION OF SOUND IN IRON BORATE CRYSTALS [PDF]
High temperature antiferromagnets such as iron borate, hematite etc., have high magnetoelastic coupling. As a result, in the conditions of birefringence effect, there is a possibility to control parameters of sound waves by a small external magnetic ...

Opportunities of Semiconducting Oxide Nanostructures as Advanced Luminescent Materials in Photonics
The review discusses the challenges of wide and ultrawide bandgap semiconducting oxides as a suitable material platform for photonics. They offer great versatility in terms of tuning microstructure, native defects, doping, anisotropy, and micro‐ and nano‐structuring. The review focuses on their light emission, light‐confinement in optical cavities, and

We introduce a molecular strategy to assemble one‐dimensional (1D) materials into two‐dimensional (2D) van der Waals metal–organic frameworks (MOFs). Crystals of [FeX(pzX)(bpy)] (X = Cl, F) form anisotropic 2D layers that can be mechanically exfoliated into thin sheets.

High-finesse fiber Bragg gratings (FBGs) Fabry-Perot interferometers (FPIs) have shown great promise as sensitive ultrasonic sensors. However, the fabrication process of the sensors usually introduces birefringence to the fiber, which makes the sensor ...

Polarisation-holding in a high-birefringence fibre
The polarisation-holding ability of a 1 km length of high-birefringence fibre is reported. The fibre birefringence increases linearly with frequency and the polarisation-holding parameter h is independent of frequency with a value of 5.5 × 10?6 m?1, indicating average polarisation-holding to ?22 dB.

Azobenzene photoswitches translate molecular‐scale E/Z photoisomerization into macroscopic material responses and device‐level photonic functions. This Review highlights how azobenzene research has evolved from molecular photochemistry to photoalignment, mass migration, photomechanics, and heat release, ultimately enabling holography, reconfigurable ...
