An experimental method to measure gear tooth stiffness throughout and beyond the path of contact

open access: yes, 2001
A method is presented that allows the accurate measurement of the tooth pair stiffness of a pair of spur gears. The method reveals the stiffness behaviour throughout the full length of the normal path of contact and also into the extended contact region ...

Large Scale Fabrication of Graphene Based Nano‐Electromechanical (NEM) Contact Switches with Sub‐0.5 Volt Actuation

open access: yesAdvanced Physics Research, 2023
Nano‐electromechanical (NEM) contact switches are extensively studied to suppress the limitations of conventional complementary metal‐oxide‐semiconductor (CMOS) transistors.

Finite Element Method-Based Spherical Indentation Analysis of Jute/Sisal/Banana-Polypropylene Fiber-Reinforced Composites

open access: yesAdsorption Science & Technology, 2022
Material hardness of natural fiber composites depends upon the orientation of fibers, ratio of fiber to matrix, and their mechanical and physical properties. Experimentally finding the material hardness of composites is an involved task. The present work

Structural instability impairs function of the UDP‐xylose synthase 1 Ile181Asn variant associated with short‐stature genetic syndrome in humans

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The Ile181Asn variant of human UDP‐xylose synthase (hUXS1), associated with a short‐stature genetic syndrome, has previously been reported as inactive. Our findings demonstrate that Ile181Asn‐hUXS1 retains catalytic activity similar to the wild‐type but exhibits reduced stability, a looser oligomeric state, and an increased tendency to precipitate ...

Lattice Boltzmann phase-field modeling of thermocapillary flows in a confined microchannel

open access: yes, 2014
To understand how thermocapillary forces manipulate the droplet motion in a confined microchannel, a lattice Boltzmann phase-field model is developed to simulate immiscible thermocapillary flows with consideration of fluid–surface interactions.

Transferrin receptor 1‐mediated iron uptake supports thermogenic activation in human cervical‐derived adipocytes

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
In this study, we found that human cervical‐derived adipocytes maintain intracellular iron level by regulating the expression of iron transport‐related proteins during adrenergic stimulation. Melanotransferrin is predicted to interact with transferrin receptor 1 based on in silico analysis.

Comparison of Crack Detection Performance of Low and High Contact Ratio Spur Gears

open access: yesApplied Sciences
This paper discusses the possible early crack detectability performances of low contact ratio (LCR) and high contact ratio (HCR) spur gears. CAD models of the LCR and HCR gears are created using the rack cutter type tool.

pH‐mediated activation of the lysosomal arginine sensor SLC38A9

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Cells monitor nutrient levels via the lysosomal transporter SLC38A9 to activate the mechanistic target of rapamycin complex 1 (mTORC1). This study reveals that SLC38A9 function is regulated by pH. We identified histidine 544 as a critical pH sensor that undergoes conformational changes to control amino acid efflux from lysosomes; therefore, it ...

Mediating variables in the relationship between 2D: 4D digit ratio and sports achievement rank [PDF]

open access: yes, 2004
This study investigated the extent to which 2D: 4D digit ratio, mental rotation ability and the personality variables of social-potency, achievement, harm-avoidance and control are effective predictors of achievement rank in team sports and also whether ...

Accelerated testing of multi-walled CNT composite electrical contacts for MEMS switches

open access: yes, 2014
The use of gold-coated multi-walled carbon nanotube (Au/MWCNT) bilayer composite surfaces has been discussed in previous work as a method for improving the reliability of switch contacts [1, 2].
