High Efficiency Video Coding(HEVC)
2013HEVC the latest standard is presented. Comparison with H.264/AVC ( Chap. 4) is cited. The focus is on overview of HEVC rather than a detailed description of tools and techniques that constitute the encoder. A plethora of projects listed at the end challenges the implementation and futher research related to HEVC.

Efficient Rate Control for Intra-Frame Coding in High Efficiency Video Coding
Proceedings of the 11th International Conference on Signal Processing and Multimedia Applications, 2014In this paper, a coding tree unit (CTU)-level rate control (RC) scheme is proposed for intra-frame coding in the high efficiency video coding (HEVC). The CTU-level target bits are allocated based on the content complexity and the parameters of the Cauchy-based rate-quantization (R-Q) model of the current CTU is estimated according to the neighboring ...

Scalable video coding based on high efficiency video coding (HEVC)
Proceedings of 2011 IEEE Pacific Rim Conference on Communications, Computers and Signal Processing, 2011In this paper, we propose two structures for scalable video coding (SVC) based on HEVC. Several inter-layer prediction mechanisms are introduced to improve coding efficiency of the proposed HEVC-based SVC. The proposed inter-layer predictions are developed on single-loop and multi-loop decoding structures.

Short Distance Intra Coding Scheme for High Efficiency Video Coding
IEEE Transactions on Image Processing, 2013This paper proposes a new intra coding scheme, known as short distance intra prediction (SDIP), for high efficiency video coding (HEVC) standardization work. The proposed method is based on the quadtree unit structure of HEVC. By splitting a coding unit into nonsquare units for coding and reconstruction, and therefore shortening the distances between ...

Quantization Matrix Coding for High Efficiency Video Coding
2012Quantization matrix (QM) has been adopted in image coding standards such as JPEG and JPEG-2000, as well as in video standards such as MPEG2, MPEG4 and H.264/AVC. QM can improve the subjective quality through frequency weighting on different frequency coefficients.

Adaptive rate control for High Efficiency Video Coding
2012 Visual Communications and Image Processing, 2012A frame level adaptive rate control scheme for the emerging High Efficiency Video Coding (HEVC) standard is proposed in this paper, where both rate model and distortion model are provided. For rate modeling, a new rate model is proposed based on the weighted complexity estimation of the previously encoded frames. For distortion modeling, the distortion

A Parametric Merge Candidate for High Efficiency Video Coding
2013 Data Compression Conference, 2013Block based motion compensated prediction still is the main technique used for temporal redundancy reduction in modern hybrid video codecs. However, the resulting motion vector fields are highly redundant as well. So, motion vector prediction and difference coding are used to compress such vector fields.

Content-adaptive deblocking for high efficiency video coding
Signal Processing: Image Communication, 2012In this paper, a content-adaptive deblocking method is proposed to improve the visual quality of block-based DCT compressed videos. We find that the edge information obtained through the global orientation energy edge detection (OEED) on an initially deblocked image provides a robust partition of local directional features (LDFs).

A reversible watermarking algorithm for high efficiency video coding
2017 10th International Congress on Image and Signal Processing, BioMedical Engineering and Informatics (CISP-BMEI), 2017In order to eliminate the error propagation causes by embedding watermark in intra frames, a reversible watermarking algorithm without error propagation for high efficiency video coding (HEVC) is proposed. Firstly, it selects the embedding regions in 4×4 luminance prediction unit (PU) to identify whether it is texture block for low bit rate increasing.

Predicting zero coefficients for High Efficiency Video Coding
2014 IEEE International Conference on Multimedia and Expo (ICME), 2014Similar to previous video coding standards, transform and quantization are used in the most recent video coding standard High Efficiency Video Coding (HEVC) and a large number of transform coefficients are quantized to zeros. In order to reduce the computations involved in transform and quantization in HEVC, a prediction approach based on Gaussian ...
