Low energy gauge couplings in grand unified theories and high precision physics [PDF]

open access: green, 1993
I generalize the leading log relations between low energy SU(3){sub QCD}, SU(2){sub {rvec I}} and U(l){sub Y} effective gauge couplings to include all one-loop threshold effects of matter fields in oblique vector self energy quantum corrections for both supersymmetric and non-supersymmetric SU(5) grand unified theories.

Theory of elementary particles and accelerator theory: Task C: Experimental high energy physics. Annual progress report [PDF]

open access: green, 1992
The experimental high energy physics group at the University of Oregon broadened its effort during the past year. The SLD effort extends from maintaining and operating the SLD luminosity monitor which was built at Oregon, to significant responsibility in physics analysis, such as event selection and background analysis for the left-right asymmetry ...

Speculative Physics: the Ontology of Theory and Experiment in High Energy Particle Physics and Science Fiction

open access: green, 2014
The dissertation brings together approaches across the fields of physics, critical theory, literary studies, philosophy of physics, sociology of science, and history of science to synthesize a hybrid approach for instigating more rigorous and intense cross-disciplinary interrogations between the sciences and the humanities.

Quantum Simulation for High-Energy Physics [PDF]

open access: yesPRX Quantum, 2022
It is for the first time that Quantum Simulation for High Energy Physics (HEP) is studied in the U.S. decadal particle-physics community planning, and in fact until recently, this was not considered a mainstream topic in the community.

Fractal Structures of Yang–Mills Fields and Non-Extensive Statistics: Applications to High Energy Physics [PDF]

open access: yesPhysics, 2020
In this work, we provide an overview of the recent investigations on the non-extensive Tsallis statistics and its applications to high energy physics and astrophysics, including physics at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC), hadron physics, and neutron ...

Learning from radiation at a very high energy lepton collider [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of High Energy Physics, 2022
We study the potential of lepton collisions with about 10 TeV center of mass energy to probe Electroweak, Higgs and Top short-distance physics at the 100 TeV scale, pointing out the interplay with the long-distance (100 GeV) phenomenon of Electroweak ...

Parton distributions in the SMEFT from high-energy Drell-Yan tails [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of High Energy Physics, 2021
The high-energy tails of charged- and neutral-current Drell-Yan processes provide important constraints on the light quark and anti-quark parton distribution functions (PDFs) in the large-x region.

COMP Report: CPQR technical quality control guidelines for use of positron emission tomography/computed tomography in radiation treatment planning

open access: yesJournal of Applied Clinical Medical Physics, Volume 23, Issue 12, December 2022., 2022
Abstract Positron emission tomography with x‐ray computed tomography (PET/CT) is increasingly being utilized for radiation treatment planning (RTP). Accurate delivery of RT therefore depends on quality PET/CT data. This study covers quality control (QC) procedures required for PET/CT for diagnostic imaging and incremental QC required for RTP.

Very-High-Energy Collective States of Partons in Fractional Quantum Hall Liquids [PDF]

open access: yesPhysical Review X, 2021
The low-energy physics of fractional quantum Hall (FQH) states – a paradigm of strongly correlated topological phases of matter – to a large extent is captured by weakly interacting quasiparticles known as composite fermions.
