High-Entropy Alloys

open access: yes, 2014
This book provides a complete review of the current state of the art in the field of high entropy alloys (HEA). The conventional approach to alloy design is to select one principal element and add elements to it in minor quantities in order to improve ...

From High‐Entropy Alloys to High‐Entropy Steels

steel research international, 2015
Inspired by high‐entropy alloys, we study the design of steels that are based on high configurational entropy for stabilizing a single‐phase solid solution matrix. The focus is placed on the system Fe–Mn–Al–Si–C but we also present trends in the alloy system Fe–Mn–Al–C.

Hydrogen solution in high-entropy alloys

Physical Chemistry Chemical Physics, 2021
Using DFT calculations we revealed the origins of the variation of the H solution energy induced in high-entropy alloys (HEAs), and then proposed a predictive model that is universal and available for assessing the distributions of H solution energies in HEAs.

Mesoporous High-Entropy Alloy Films

ACS Nano
High-entropy alloys (HEAs) are promising materials for electrochemical energy applications due to their excellent catalytic performance and durability. However, the controlled synthesis of HEAs with a well-defined structure and a uniform composition distribution remains a challenge.

High-Entropy Alloys

2022
Abstract This chapter summarizes the progress that has been made in the study of high-entropy alloy (HEA) systems and the process-structure-property relationships that define them. It describes the various ways HEAs can be strengthened and explains how alloying elements influence tensile and yield strength, fracture toughness, and ...

Phase Engineering of High‐Entropy Alloys

Advanced Materials, 2020
AbstractHigh‐entropy alloys (HEAs) are based on five or more principal elements with equal or nearly equal molar fractions and possess many significant advantages over traditional alloys, including high strength and hardness, excellent corrosion resistance, outstanding thermal stability, and irradiation resistance. Phase structure plays a vital role in

Phase stabilities of high entropy alloys

Scripta Materialia, 2019
Abstract A perturbation model is used to evaluate the phase stabilities of high entropy alloys. The calculation results can successfully predict the phase stabilities of many high entropy alloys and shows that stable single phase high entropy alloys are rare.

Discovery of a Superconducting High-Entropy Alloy

Physical Review Letters, 2014
High-entropy alloys (HEAs) are multicomponent mixtures of elements in similar concentrations, where the high entropy of mixing can stabilize disordered solid-solution phases with simple structures like a body-centered cubic or a face-centered cubic, in competition with ordered crystalline intermetallic phases.
