Broadening the semiaquatic scene: Quantification of long bone microanatomy across pinnipeds

open access: yesThe Anatomical Record, EarlyView.
Abstract Investigations of bone microanatomy are commonly used to explore lifestyle strategies in vertebrates. While distinct microanatomical limb bone features have been established for exclusively aquatic and terrestrial lifestyles, identifying clear patterns for the semiaquatic lifestyle remains more challenging.

Marine silicon for biomedical sustainability

open access: yesBMEMat, EarlyView.
Schematic illustrating marine silicon for biomedical engineering. Abstract Despite momentous divergence from oceanic origin, human beings and marine organisms exhibit elemental homology through silicon utilization. Notably, silicon serves as a critical constituent in multiple biomedical processes.

How to Reduce Wheat Allergens and FODMAPs in Foods: A Critical Review of Patents

open access: yesCereal Chemistry, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background and Objectives Supported by scientific evidence, this critical review of the patent literature examined methods to reduce wheat allergens and FODMAPs in foods, which may trigger digestive disorders and other health problems. The following topics were covered: proteolytic enzymes, proteolytic bacteria and yeasts, separation, plant ...

Quantitative NMR Spectroscopy under High Hydrostatic Pressure

open access: yesChemistry – A European Journal, EarlyView.
Solvent compression leads to an increase in integrals and signal heights characterizing (bio)molecules that are studied using high‐pressure NMR spectroscopy. So far, solvent compression has not been considered when quantitative high‐pressure NMR spectroscopy was used to characterize (bio)molecules.

Reversible I2 Uptake Induces Record‐High Spin‐Crossover Hysteresis in a Fe(II) Hofmann‐Type MOF

open access: yesChemistry – A European Journal, EarlyView.
Reversible iodine uptake in a flexible Fe(II) Hofmann‐type MOF [Fe(pz)Pd(CN)4] induces record‐wide SCO hysteresis. Gas‐phase I2 acts as internal chemical pressure, stabilizing both high‐spin and LS states without altering the framework, providing a general strategy for tunable bistability in coordination networks.
