Iatrogenic superior mesenteric vein injury: the perils of high ligation
International Journal of Colorectal Disease, 2016The purpose of this review is to highlight the perils and pitfalls associated with high vascular ligation during right colectomies for adenocarcinoma and to identify the various mechanisms of injury to the superior mesenteric vein (SMV) and its tributaries. This is a retrospective chart review of 304 right colectomies (159 open and 145 laparoscopic ...

High ligation of the inferior mesenteric artery in rectal cancer surgery
Surgery Today, 2012In rectal cancer surgery, it is unclear whether the inferior mesenteric artery (IMA) should be ligated as high as possible, at its origin, or low, below the origin of the left colic artery. We reviewed all relevant articles identified from MEDLINE databases and found that despite a trend of improved survival among patients who underwent high ligation ...

Operative management of varicocele by high retroperitoneal ligation of the spermatic vein
International Urology and Nephrology, 1978High retroperitoneal ligation of the internal spermatic vein has been performed in 30 cases of varicocele. Renospermatic reflux had been demonstrated by preoperative phlebography in every case. Retrograde pressure brought to bear on the spermatic vein from the renal vein has been ascertained by intraoperative measurements of the pressures in the ...

High and Low Inferior Mesenteric Artery Ligation
2017The inferior mesenteric artery supplies the descending colon, sigmoid colon, and rectum, and the competent surgeon must decide whether a high or low ligation should be performed before proceeding with its ligation. The decision requires technical, anatomic, and oncologic reasoning to inform the surgeon and will depend on the location and extent of ...

High Ligation and Stripping of the Long Saphenous Vein
2001Varicosis is neither a disease of prosperity nor merely a cosmetically disturbing change, for permanent high pressure in the venous system always results in a disturbance of the entire hemodynamics. Thus, insufficiency of perforator veins can allow superficial thrombophlebitis eventually to affect the deep venous system [19].

High-Efficiency Ligation and Recombination of DNA Fragments by Vertebrate Cells
Science, 1983DNA-mediated gene transfer (transfection) is used to introduce specific genes into vertebrate cells. Events soon after transfection were quantitatively analyzed by determining the infectivity of the DNA from an avian retrovirus and of mixtures of subgenomic fragments of this DNA. The limiting step of transfection with two DNA molecules is the uptake by

High Ligation of the Saphenofemoral Junction in Endovenous Obliteration of Varicose Veins
Vascular and Endovascular Surgery, 2008Background Endovenous radiofrequency (RF) ablation of the greater saphenous vein has become an accepted treatment modality. This study examines if it is necessary to perform high ligation of the saphenous vein to insure success of the procedure. Study design A retrospective chart analysis was conducted on 219 patients who underwent RF

Simple technique for high ligation of the inferior mesenteric artery and vein
Diseases of the Colon & Rectum, 1991A simple technique is described for high ligation of the inferior mesenteric artery and vein during resection of the rectum and rectosigmoid to facilitate excision of mesenteric lymph nodes and complete mobilization of the left colon, allowing for a tension-free coloanal or low colorectal anastomosis.

High ligation of cystic vessels in subserous cholecystectomy
The American Journal of Surgery, 1938Abstract The advantages of subserous cholecystectomy are: (1) facility of operation through a small incision; (2) greater safety, particularly in the region of the cystic and common ducts; (3) quicker and easier recovery of the patient (seven days in bed); (4) fewer complications.

High-Yielding Staudinger Ligation of a Phosphinothioester and Azide To Form a Peptide
Organic Letters, 2000[figure: see text] The Staudinger ligation can be used to couple a peptide with a C-terminal phosphinothioester to another with an N-terminal alpha-azido group to form a single peptide that contains no residual atoms. Here diphenylphosphinomethanethiol thioesters are shown to give high isolated yields for this transformation.
