High Pressure Feedwater Heater Cup Forging Alteration

open access: yesVolume 1: Fuels and Combustion, Material Handling, Emissions; Steam Generators; Heat Exchangers and Cooling Systems; Turbines, Generators and Auxiliaries; Plant Operations and Maintenance; Reliability, Availability and Maintainability (RAM); Plant Systems, Structures, Components and Materials Issues, 2014
American Exchanger Services, Inc (AM-EX) performed a 2012 repair of a vertical head-up High Pressure (HP) Feedwater Heater breech lock channel during a shop based re-tube for the American Electric Power (AEP) Wilkes Power Plant, Unit 1. The 48 year old channel is a carbon steel cup-forging that had 1-1/2″ deep circumferential cracks extending radially ...

Boron-doped diamond heater and its application to large-volume, high-pressure, and high-temperature experiments

open access: yesReview of Scientific Instruments, 2009
A temperature of 3500 °C was generated using a diamond resistance heater in a large-volume Kawai-type high-pressure apparatus. Re and LaCrO3 have conventionally been used for heaters in high-pressure studies but they cannot generate temperatures higher than 2900 °C and make in situ x-ray observations difficult due to their high x-ray absorption.

Thermochemical Mechanism of Optimized Lanthanum Chromite Heaters for High-Pressure and High-Temperature Experiments

ACS Applied Materials & Interfaces, 2022
High-pressure heaters in large volume presses must reconcile potentially contradictory properties, and the whole high-pressure and high-temperature (HPHT) community has been engaged for years to seek a better heater. LaCrO3 (LCO)-based ceramic heaters have been widely applied in multianvil apparatus; however, their performance is far from satisfactory,

Header-platen high-pressure heaters

Thermal Engineering, 2009
We present a new schematic design of high-pressure heaters for the regeneration systems of turbine units used at nuclear and thermal power stations, which features better reliability, smaller weight and overall dimensions, and higher thermal efficiency as compared with those characteristic for the design of the well-known types of heaters. We also show

Correlation of high-pressure arc heater results

AIAA Journal, 1970
A method is introduced to correlate data from high-pressure arc heaters. It is suited for those heaters which have losses dominated by radiation. The correlation is valid for both laminar and turbulent flows. Turbulence is postulated to effect only the thermal conduction, and not electrical conduction or radiation.

Model-based fault detection in a high-pressure heater line

2003
The section of a real power plant is considered as benchmark to sliding-window neural state estimator for the purpose of fault diagnosis. First, a complete description of the model is given with a number of details. Second, the design procedure of the neural estimator is presented that relies on a receding-horizon strategy and employ estimation ...

High-pressure arc heater development and modeling - Status and requirements

Journal of Propulsion and Power, 1996
An arc heater development program has been undertaken to develop a large, high-pressure, highpower arc heater capability. A large, state-of-the-art segmented arc heater (H3) has operated successfully and is scheduled to be fully operational at chamber pressures up to 100 atm with a total power of 60 MW in 1996.

Electrode phenomena in high-current, high-pressure arc heaters

Journal of Thermophysics and Heat Transfer, 1993
The behavior of an arc in the cathode region of a high-pressure, high-current arc heater is investigated numerically. The study is conducted to determine the design features required for high-performance arc heaters needed for future aerospace research facilities.
