Melting of NaCl in a heater as a simple temperature monitor at high pressure
Review of Scientific Instruments, 1990A simple method to monitor the temperature in a high pressure apparatus has been developed. In this, a small amount of NaCl placed in the graphite heater of a pressurized furnace assembly melted when the heater temperature was increased and this caused an abrupt change in the heater resistance.

High Pressure Arc Heater Electrode Heat Transfer Study
AIAA Journal, 1974Theme T purpose of this work was to measure the energy losses in the downstream electrode of a highperformance, Huels-type arc heater (the MDC-200) operating over a wide range of pressure and power levels. To define the predominant loss modes, the measurements included axial distributions of both the total electrode heat flux and the radiative heat ...

High Pressure Feedwater Heater Hemi Head Manway Hoist
Volume 2: Plant Systems, Structures, and Components; Safety and Security; Next Generation Systems; Heat Exchangers and Cooling Systems, 2012Removing and installing manway access doors on hemi-head style Feedwater Heaters can be very challenging/difficult with significant safety concerns handling components that weigh as much as 500lbs on large HP Supercritical Units. Original heater manufacturer supplied handling rigs typically require manual hands-on “grunt” methods to manipulate the rigs

Prompt Leak Detection for High Pressure Feedwater Heaters
2002 International Joint Power Generation Conference, 2002I. THE NEED. A. In high pressure feedwater heaters, a tube leak quickly claims several neighboring tubes as collateral victims. B. Prompt detection of the initial leak would save the neighboring tubes from damage and preclude a potential turbine water induction incident. II. EXAMPLE. A. A Midwest generating station replaced 12 old high pressure heaters.

Results of Combined Cleaning of the Internal Heating Surfaces of High-Pressure Heaters
Power Technology and Engineering, 2020The technology, flow diagram, and results of combined cleaning of deposits from the internal heating surfaces (tubes) of high-pressure heaters are described. The technology makes it possible to substantially reduce the temperature drops in HPHs.

A particle bed heater for creating a clear, high-temperature, high-pressure gas flow
Review of Scientific Instruments, 1993The design and operation of a compact, lightweight particle bed heater for rapidly loading (≤1 s) a 1000 cm3 test chamber with clear, high-temperature (100≤T≤600 °C), high-pressure (10≤P≤50 MPa) gas is described. The device facilitates the design of short duration (≤10 s) experiments where visualization of dynamic systems at such conditions are desired.

Cyclic Operation of Supercritical High Pressure Feedwater Heater Study
Volume 1: Fuels and Combustion, Material Handling, Emissions; Steam Generators; Heat Exchangers and Cooling Systems; Turbines, Generators and Auxiliaries; Plant Operations and Maintenance, 2013As more renewable energy sources come on line with the inherent inconsistency of load dispatch feedwater heaters become subject to more frequent and rapid cyclic operation. In a recent project, American Exchanger Services (AM-EX) was asked to gather and analyze operating information on a high pressure feedwater heater during daily rapid load changes ...

FURTHER DEVELOPMENT OF A GRAPHITE HEATER FOR HIGH PRESSURE NITROGEN OPERATION
1963Abstract : An experimental study was conducted to extend the operation of a graphite resistance nitrogen heater to pressures above the 1000 psi previously obtained. Using a somewhat modified design, a single pass spiral heater element as fabricated and tested at 5000 psi and 5000 R.

When heat exchanger tubes have critical thinning which could cause unsafe conditions, it is general practice to plug the tubes so that they are out of service to prevent rupture failure at the thinnest location. Plugging criteria for the high-pressure feedwater heater tubes of fossil power plant were studied.

Study of high pressure and high current arcs in the cathode region of an arc heater
30th Aerospace Sciences Meeting and Exhibit, 1992This paper investigates the behavior of high pressure, high current arcs in the downstream electrode region (cathode) of an arc heater. Computations are done for operating pressures in the range 50 atm to 200 atm and load currents in the range 6000 amp to 18,000 amp.
