Microstructural evolution of Ti-6Al-7Nb alloy during high pressure torsion

open access: yesMaterials Research, 2012
Ti-6Al-7Nb alloys are being evaluated for biomedical applications, in substitution of the more conventional Ti-6Al-7V. Both types of alloys present a microstructure containing the α and the β phases, which result in good compromise for ...

In-Situ Synchrotron Profile Analysis after High-Pressure Torsion Deformation

open access: yesCrystals, 2019
The presence of hydrostatic pressure is a general crucial characteristic of severe plastic deformation methods for reaching high strains and for introducing large quantities of lattice defects, which are necessary to establish new grain boundaries ...

Continuous Stiffness Graded Metal–Ceramic Femoral Stems: UMAT‐Based Design and Finite Element Assessment

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Functionally graded metal–ceramic femoral stems are engineered through continuous UMAT‐based stiffness tailoring, eliminating discrete material interfaces while enhancing biomechanical compatibility. Low‐index power‐law gradation optimizes load transfer, reduces stress shielding, and controls implant–bone micromotion, highlighting a materials‐design ...

Modelling of High Pressure Torsion using FEM

open access: yesProcedia Engineering, 2017
High Pressure Torsion (HPT) is historically the first and is currently most common process of the severe plastic deformation (SPD). HPT is used for producing nanocrystalline structures in metals and alloys, as well as for cold welding of powders. The result of the HPT treatment is determined by the flow kinematics and the stress state of a material ...

Amorphization of TiNi induced by high-pressure torsion

open access: yesPhilosophical Magazine Letters, 2004
Using high-resolution electron microscopy, we investigated the initial stages of high-pressure-torsion-induced crystalline-to-amorphous transformation of TiNi. It is found that the deformation-induced amorphization initiated from dislocation core regions in the interior of grains and from grain boundaries.

Control of Polarization and Polar Helicity in BiFeO3 by Epitaxial Strain and Interfacial Chemistry

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
In BiFeO3 thin films, the interplay of interfacial chemistry, electrostatics, and epitaxial strain is engineered to stabilize homohelicity in polarization textures at the domain scale. The synergistic use of a Bi2O2‐terminated Aurivillius buffer layer and a highly anisotropic compressive epitaxial strain offers new routes to control the polar‐texture ...

Graded‐Interface Dual‐Environment Hydrogel‐Polymer Electrolyte for Stabilized Anode and Sustained Cathode Kinetics in Aqueous Zinc‐Ion Batteries

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A graded‐interface hydrogel‐polymer electrolyte decouples water activity to simultaneously stabilize the Zn anode and sustain cathode kinetics. The flexible design supports dendrite‐free cycling over 1600 h, high capacity in both MnO2 and V2O5 full cells, and stable pouch‐cell performance under bending, resolving the fundamental water conflict in ...
