Directional ground fault indicator for high-resistance grounded systems
IEEE Technical Conference Industrial and Commerical Power Systems, 2002Locating ground faults is a difficult and challenging problem for low-voltage power systems that are ungrounded or have high-impedance grounding. Recent work in pilot signals has renewed efforts in developing fault location methodologies. This paper presents a method for directional ground-fault indication that utilizes the fundamental frequency ...

Method to detect line-to-ground faults in high-resistance-ground networks
2010 IEEE Energy Conversion Congress and Exposition, 2010An Industrial-Power-Converter-System (IPCS) is a system made up of several power converters, such as Adjustable Speed Drive (ASDs), filters, and any kind of reactive power-compensation components. Today, an IPCS requires the ability to accurately detect and isolate electric faults to avoid further compromise of the integrity of the whole system.

Fault locating in ungrounded and high-resistance grounded systems
IEEE Transactions on Industry Applications, 2001One of the most common and difficult problems to solve in industrial power systems is the location and elimination of the ground fault. Ground faults that occur in ungrounded and high-resistance grounded systems do not draw enough current to trigger circuit breaker or fuse operation, making them difficult to localize. Techniques currently used to track

Digital fault location for high resistance grounded transmission lines
IEEE Transactions on Power Delivery, 1999This paper demonstrates that the presence of multiple load taps cannot be neglected for single-phase-to-ground fault location. A new method has been developed taking this into consideration, that can be applied to correct the location error due to intermediate power sources.

Modeling and Simulation of Unstable High Resistance Grounding Fault based on RTDS
2020 IEEE Sustainable Power and Energy Conference (iSPEC), 2020RTDS is an effective simulation method for mining and processing the hidden criterion of protection device. Based on the case of invisible criterion blocking line protection under unstable high resistance grounding fault, this paper analyzes the test requirements, platform, equipment parameters and test items of modeling and simulation of unstable high

Phase-Ground Fault Current Analysis and Protection of a High-Resistance Grounded Power System
2019 IEEE Industry Applications Society Annual Meeting, 2019This article provides a closer look at a high resistance grounded (HRG) power system using symmetrical components. It addresses the industry confusion, “how system charging current direction reverses during phase-ground fault condition without reversal of system voltage that causes fault current flow.” It presents fault current phasor diagram that ...
