A Phase Selection Element for High Resistance Ground Faults of Transmission Line
2019 IEEE Power & Energy Society General Meeting (PESGM), 2019Zero sequence current differential protection can't select fault phase of transmission libe. Normal phase selection element is affected by load current and fault resistance, especially high resistance ground faults. A new phase selection method is proposed in this paper.

One of the more difficult problems to solve in industrial plants is how to identify and eliminate ground faults in a high-resistance ground (HRG) system. This is because ground-fault conditions in these systems do not draw enough current to reliably trigger fault current sensors in the drive.

Identifying ground fault location in High Resistance Grounded systems using Adjustable Speed Drive
2011 IEEE Energy Conversion Congress and Exposition, 2011One of the more difficult problems to solve in industrial plant is to locate and eliminate a ground fault in High Resistance Ground (HRG) system. This is because a ground fault conditions in these systems do not draw enough current to reliably trigger fault current sensors in the drive.

High-resistance grounding (HRG) is preferred in many industrial applications where continual operation during ground fault conditions is critical. However, there are some drawbacks for the traditional HRG detection methods to locate a ground fault in adjustable speed drive systems. The existing methods cannot detect or identify which phase faulted once

This paper provides electrical equivalent circuits of High-Resistance Grounded (HRG) power systems other than a delta-wye connected utility power supply transformer included in Part 1 of this paper. This paper provides HRG grounding of a medium voltage (MV) generator for connection to an industrial power system and to a utility power system, and ...

A random matrix based high-resistance grounding fault detection method using PMU measurements
2016 IEEE PES Innovative Smart Grid Technologies Conference Europe (ISGT-Europe), 2016Ground fault through transition resistance is common in power systems highly impacting the correct action of protection. To improve the reliability of power systems, a random matrix based method is used in this paper as a backup protection to detect the high-resistance grounding fault, on the basis of successive PMU voltage measurements.

Research on summation impedance relay with ability to identify high-resistance ground fault
2013 IEEE PES Asia-Pacific Power and Energy Engineering Conference (APPEEC), 2013Protection for single-phase high-resistance ground faults is a long term concern in the field of relay protection. Because characteristic of single-phase high-resistance ground faults is unobvious, the traditional distance protection can't deal with it.

Phasor diagram of a single-phase-ground fault current in a high-resistance grounded power system
2017 IEEE/IAS 53rd Industrial and Commercial Power Systems Technical Conference (I&CPS), 2017This paper clarifies the bolted single-phase-ground fault current flow directions and its' phasor diagram for a high-resistance grounded (HRG) power system. The paper clarifies that the system charging current 3I CO (vector sum of currents from un-faulted phases to ground) flow direction remains unchanged, whereas the same current called the ...

The Problem of Ground Faults on Overhead Lines with High Earth Return Resistance
2019 IEEE IAS Pulp, Paper and Forest Industries Conference (PPFIC), 2019The purpose of this paper is to consider the impact of high resistivity soil on ground current from fallen overhead lines via a hypothetical earth path resistance calculation. A second major thrust is consideration of solutions to the related problem of how to detect and automatically de-energize overhead lines when they fall. The relevance of specific
