This paper is intended as a status report on high-speed detectors for the visible and near-infrared portion of the optical spectrum. Both vacuum and solid-state detectors are discussed, with the emphasis on those devices which can be used as direct (noncoherent) detectors of weak optical signals modulated at microwave frequencies.

Laser Additive Manufacturing (LAM) of parts and components fascinates due to process specific advantages such as nearly unrestricted geometrical freedom, material freedom and achievable properties of the parts built-up. Hence, adaptive parts and components can be manufactured, repaired and modified by LAM. This article presents the advances in speeding

RESENTATION fter 3 hours of increasingly intense chest pain, our patient, 50-year-old female smoker, called an ambulance. She had xperienced 2 hours of intermittent, substernal low-intenity, dull aching chest pain, followed by 1 hour of severe nd continuous pain with radiation to the left shoulder and rm.

High-Speed Multidimensional Convolution
IEEE Transactions on Pattern Analysis and Machine Intelligence, 1980Fast computation algorithms are developed for twodimensional and general multidimensional convolutions. Two basic techniques (overlap-and-add, overlap-and-save) are described in detail. These techniques allow speed and storage requirement tradeoffs and they define a decomposition of the total convolution into partial convolutions that can be easily ...

ET a broadcasting link between radio station and radio car; a global satellite navigation signal tracking the location of a ship; or an electric railway signal alerting train drivers about the status of the line ahead. A more recent trend has seen the design of transport applications that rely on a variety of communications techniques.

Structural and genetic characterization of chromosomes is necessary to understand both normal and pathologic physiology in any species. Flow cytometry and cell sorting technologies provide a means for precise measurement of chromosomal makeup as well as for the isolation of specific chromosomes for further study.

Dual-beam high-speed sorting has been developed to facilitate purification of chromosomes based on DNA staining with the fluorescent dyes Hoechst 33258 and chromomycin A3. Approximately 200 chromosomes per second of two types can be sorted from a suspension of chromosomes isolated from human lymphoblasts while fluorescent objects (chromosomes, debris ...

High-Speed Multiplication Systems
IEEE Transactions on Computers, 1972Large-scale scientific computers are characterized by having a high ratio of computing requirements to the input-output requirements. Thus the speed of arithmetic operations should be of prime importance in this group of digital computers. In this note a mathematical formula is derived to determine the multiplication time obtained by each of the known ...
