Salmonella lipopolysaccharide‐containing supported lipid bilayers as platforms to study bacteriophage interactions

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We present robust protocols for the preparation of supported lipid bilayers (SLBs) incorporating either Salmonella smooth LPS or outer membrane vesicles (OMVs). We use a combination of quartz crystal microbalance with dissipation (QCM‐D) and fluorescence microscopy to both characterize the SLBs of various compositions and to probe their interactions ...

Transient liquid phase soldering for lead-free joining of power electronic modules in high temperature applications

open access: yes, 2022
S.25-33The study focuses on a new variant of transient liquid phase soldering (TLPS) using tin based solder with copper powder. This technology may act as an alternative for lead free joining of semiconductor dies in power electronic applications at high

PARK(ing) time–How park deficiency affects the biological clock in a Drosophila model of Parkinson's disease

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Drosophila park mutants serve as a model for Parkinson's disease. We used this strain to investigate the connection between oxidative stress and the circadian clock mechanism. We showed that increased oxidative stress affects the physiology of pacemaker cells, disrupting their daily structural plasticity. Lack of rhythmic signaling from pacemaker cells

Material characterization for packaging of high temperature integrated circuits

open access: yes, 2022
For electronic assembly integrated circuits (ICs) are mounted on printed circuit boards and encapsulated by an encapsulant (Glob-top) afterwards to protect them from mechanical damage, moisture and radiation which could negatively affect the device ...

α‐Synuclein aggregation landscape from phase separation to neurotoxic intermediates

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Alpha‐synuclein aggregation in Parkinson's disease involves a complex landscape of transient intermediates, including oligomers, fibrils and liquid–liquid phase separation (LLPS). A view is emerging in which LLPS maturation into solid‐like condensates may contribute to the formation of neurotoxic species.

High temperature indentation of WC/Co hardmetals

open access: yes, 2013
WC/Co is the material of choice for most high wear applications such as hot forming operations, drilling, cutting, machining and wire drawing due to its superior wear properties.

Three phosphatase families form a community: The phosphohydrolases that act upon inositol pyrophosphates

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Inositol pyrophosphates are energy‐rich signaling molecules that perform critical functions in cells. Three different families of phosphatases hydrolyze the β phosphate of the inositol pyrophosphate molecules: two have narrow specificities and one is promiscuous.
