Torque-Balanced High-Density Steady States of Single-Component Plasmas

Physical Review Letters, 2005
Electron plasmas in a Penning-Malmberg trap are compressed radially using a rotating electric field (the "rotating-wall technique"). For large electric fields, plasmas can be compressed over a broad range of frequencies. This permits access to a novel high-density regime in which outward transport is insensitive to plasma density.

EV Motor System With Magnetic Gear Satisfying High‐Power Density and High Torque Density

Electrical Engineering in Japan
ABSTRACT Technical innovations for the downsizing of motor systems are necessary to realize energy savings and roomy and comfortable car interior space in electric vehicles. In this paper, a novel motor drive system with multiple high‐speed motors and a magnetic multiple spur gear (MMSG) is proposed for electric vehicles. Furthermore,

Maximum-torque-per-ampere control of high torque-density multiphase drives based on induction motors

2012 IEEE Energy Conversion Congress and Exposition (ECCE), 2012
It is known that the torque density of multiphase motors can be increased by superimposing high-order spatial harmonics to the fundamental one in the air-gap magnetic field. However, the problem of maximizing the torque capability is still controversial, since the results depend on the constraints that have been considered.

A High Torque Density MEMS Magnetic Induction Machine

2001
Most micro-scale electric and magnetic machines developed over the last decade lack the torque and power density to support many practical applications. The micro-scale magnetic induction machine reported here attempts to transcend this practicality barrier by offering a torque density exceeding 15% of that exhibited by macro-scale magnetic machines ...

A High-Torque Density Compliant Actuator Design for Physical Robot Environment Interaction

2020 IEEE 16th International Workshop on Advanced Motion Control (AMC), 2020
Compared to the traditional industrial robots that use rigid actuators, the advanced robotic systems are mobile and physically interact with unknown and dynamic environments. Therefore, they need intrinsically safe and compact actuators. In the last two decades, Series Elastic Actuators (SEAs) have been one of the most popular compliant actuators in ...

Design and experiment of a compact wrist mechanism with high torque density

Mechanism and Machine Theory, 2014
Abstract This paper proposes a new wrist mechanism for robot manipulation. To develop multi-DOF wrist mechanisms that can emulate human wrists, compactness and high torque density are the major challenges. Traditional approaches use a series of rotary motors that require gearing to amplify the output torque.

Sizing approach of high torque density motors for aircraft application

2020 International Symposium on Power Electronics, Electrical Drives, Automation and Motion (SPEEDAM), 2020
The paper deals with PM-brushless radial flux machines with high torque density suitable for aircraft application where a high specific torque in a reduced range of operating speeds is needed. In particular, the goal is to obtain some useful relations among geometric, electrical, magnetic and thermal variables, to define an analytical expression of the

High torque density low speed permanent magnet machine

2011 IEEE International Electric Machines & Drives Conference (IEMDC), 2011
This paper gives different solutions in order to increase torque density of permanent magnets machines. The study deals with low frequency machines and, in this case, iron losses are less important than copper losses, so that supplying the machines with square wave currents can be interesting. The authors identify an original structure in which the end

High torque density induction motor with integrated magnetic gear

2016 IEEE Energy Conversion Congress and Exposition (ECCE), 2016
This paper presents a design process to integrate a magnetic gear with an induction machines. The resulting integrated machine has the potential to offer a high torque density with asynchronous speed characteristics. Such characteristics may be desirable for applications that require sensorless operation or may be subject to severe backlash or jamming.
