High-Voltage High School

Physics Today, 1948
Benjamin Siegel's 1948 seniors at El Cerrito High School in California rivaled the work of the 1947 seniors whose construction of a cyclotron last year he described in the August Physics Today. This year's group built a Van de Graaff electrostatic generator with a capacity of one hundred thousand volts, a cloud chamber, a wind tunnel, and a six-inch ...

High-voltage electrophoresis of enzymes

Journal of Chromatography A, 1971
Abstract Multiple enzymes may be separated by electrophoresis. Increasing the voltage results in a decrease in separation time, but since enzymes are sensitive to heat, the increase in voltage depends on the possibility of removing the heat produced.

High-voltage cable systems

15th IET International School on High Voltage Engineering and Testing 2008, 2008
Almost all power systems contain a mix of overhead line and cable. The balance between the two can vary dramatically. A number of factors govern the choice between line and cable: cost, route availability, environmental aspects and electrical parameters.

High-voltage ignitron rectifiers

Electrical Engineering, 1950
THE DEVELOPMENT of new types of sealed ignitron tubes has made possible rectifier equipment which is capable of delivering high power at moderately high direct voltages. The lack of moving parts, long tube life, and practically unlimited emission of the pool cathode are advantages which provide a high degree of reliability.

Porcelain for High Voltage Insulators

Transactions of the American Institute of Electrical Engineers, 1936
In this paper the mechanical failure of porcelain is discussed with special reference to 3 seldom recognized characteristics: the effect of the porcelain surface on the strength, the apparent anomalous distribution of individual mechanical test values, and the effect of time on mechanical strength.

Economics of high voltage cable

Electrical Engineering, 1931
The 182-kv. oil-filled cable placed in service in Chicago in 1927 was designed by the manufacturers in 1925 to have the largest carrying capacity commercially feasible for that voltage in the state of the art as it then existed. During the succeeding years the advancement in the art was so rapid that the cable for the same voltage installed in 1930 had

The measurement of high surge voltages

Electrical Engineering, 1933
With the application of surge tests to high voltage electrical apparatus, the question of the measurement of high-surge voltages has become a subject of prime importance. It is accordingly desired in Part I to show the practical work done in the laboratory at Sharon to calibrate the measuring devices, and in Part II to study the more interesting ...
