Spectral Data Asymptotics for Fourth-Order Boundary Value Problems [PDF]

open access: yesИзвестия Иркутского государственного университета: Серия "Математика"
In this paper, we derive sharp asymptotics for the spectral data (eigenvalues and weight numbers) of the fourth-order linear differential equation with a distribution coefficient and three types of separated boundary conditions.

Higher-Order Asymptotics in Practice

open access: yes, 2000
The S-PLUS library HOA implements several of the most promising higher-order solutions for three widely used model classes: logistic and logliner models, linear nonnormal and nonlinear heteroscedastic regression models. This contribution discusses how it is possible to implement efficiently small-sample asymptotics in a numerical computing environment.

Advances in the implementation of higher-order asymptotics

open access: yes, 1999
Practical use of modern likelihood asymptotics is still limited by the lack of flexible and easy to use computational tools. The aim of this contribution is to show that the implementation is not as hard as it might look at the first sight. We will illustrate this point by showing how higher-order asymptotics for heteroscedastic regression models may ...

Higher-order asymptotics in Bayesian inference

open access: yes, 2012
This paper reviews recent developments in higher-order asymptotics for marginal posterior distributions, and related quantities, for practical use in Bayesian analysis. In this respect, we outline how modern asymptotic theory, which provides accurate inferences in a variety of parametric statistical problems even for small sample sizes, may routinely ...

Higher order asymptotics for large deviations – Part I [PDF]

open access: yesAsymptotic Analysis, 2020
For sequences of non-lattice weakly dependent random variables, we obtain asymptotic expansions for Large Deviation Principles. These expansions, commonly referred to as strong large deviation results, are in the spirit of Edgeworth Expansions for the Central Limit Theorem.

Higher Order Scattering on Asymptotically Euclidean Manifolds [PDF]

open access: yesCanadian Journal of Mathematics, 2000
AbstractWe develop a scattering theory for perturbations of powers of the Laplacian on asymptotically Euclidean manifolds. The (absolute) scattering matrix is shown to be a Fourier integral operator associated to the geodesic flow at timeπon the boundary.

Asymptotic Syzygies and Higher Order Embeddings [PDF]

open access: yesInternational Mathematics Research Notices, 2020
AbstractWe show that vanishing of asymptotic $p$-th syzygies implies $p$-very ampleness for line bundles on arbitrary projective schemes. For smooth surfaces, we prove that the converse holds when $p$ is small, by studying the Bridgeland–King–Reid–Haiman correspondence for tautological bundles on the Hilbert scheme of points.

Exponentially accurate solution tracking for nonlinear ODEs, the higher order Stokes phenomenon and double transseries resummation [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
We demonstrate the conjunction of new exponential-asymptotic effects in the context of a second order nonlinear ordinary differential equation with a small parameter.

An asymptotic higher-order theory for rectangular beams [PDF]

open access: yesProceedings of the Royal Society A: Mathematical, Physical and Engineering Sciences, 2018
A direct asymptotic integration of the full three-dimensional problem of elasticity is employed to derive a consistent governing equation for a beam with the rectangular cross section. The governing equation is consistent in the sense that it has the same long-wave low-frequency behaviour as the exact solution of the original three-dimensional problem.
