On limiting probability distributions of higher order Markov chains
The limiting probability distribution is one of the key characteristics of a Markov chain since it shows its long-term behavior. In this paper, for a higher order Markov chain, we establish some properties related to its exact limiting probability distribution, including a sufficient condition for the existence of such a distribution.

Logarithmic Negation of Basic Probability Assignment and Its Application in Target Recognition
The negation of probability distribution is a new perspective from which to obtain information. Dempster–Shafer (D–S) evidence theory, as an extension of possibility theory, is widely used in decision-making-level fusion.

Summary: We consider the problem of estimating a ratio \(r = E(Y) / E(X)\) in a regression model \(Y = a + b X + U\). We obtain a higher order approximation of the probability distribution of the usual ratio estimator based on the sample means. In the gamma, lognormal and exponential cases, the approximation is numerically compared with the normal one ...

This paper presents three control algorithms for the output probability density function (PDF) control of the 2D and 3D flame distribution systems. For the 2D flame distribution systems, control methods for both static and dynamic flame systems are ...

Learning Probabilities: Towards a Logic of Statistical Learning [PDF]
We propose a new model for forming beliefs and learning about unknown probabilities (such as the probability of picking a red marble from a bag with an unknown distribution of coloured marbles).

Design and analysis strategies for robust microbiome ageing research
The gut microbiome changes with age and associates with age‐related morbidity and mortality, establishing it as a potential biomarker and intervention target for ageing. Realising this potential requires methodological rigour, yet distinguishing biological signals from methodological artefacts remains challenging across cohorts. This review provides an

Equivalent Risk Indicators: VaR, TCE, and Beyond
While a lot of research concentrates on the respective merits of VaR and TCE, which are the two most classic risk indicators used by financial institutions, little has been written on the equivalence between such indicators.

Subtype‐specific enhancer RNAs define transcriptional regulators and prognosis in breast cancers
This study employed machine learning methodologies to perform the subtype‐specific classification of RNA‐seq data sets, which are mapped on enhancers from TCGA‐derived breast cancer patients. Their integration with gene expression (referred to as ProxCReAM eRNAs) and chromatin accessibility profiles has the potential to identify lineage‐specific and ...

Probability distribution theory, generalisations and applications of l-moments [PDF]
In this thesis, we have studied L-moments and trimmed L-moments (TL-moments) which are both linear functions of order statistics. We have derived expressions for exact variances and covariances of sample L-moments and of sample TL-moments for any sample ...
