Mapping Glial Autophagy Dynamics in an Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis Mouse Model Reveals Microglia and Astrocyte Autophagy Dysfunction

open access: yesGlia, EarlyView.
In SOD1 mice, symptomatic spinal microglia and astrocytes show increased autophagy flux with greater dysfunction and SOD1 inclusions in astrocytes. Dysfunction was transient (end stage glia displayed control comparable levels of autophagy parameters). ABSTRACT Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) is defined by motor neuron death.

Comparative plasma proteomics in muscle atrophy during cancer‐cachexia and disuse: The search for atrokines

open access: yesPhysiological Reports, 2020
Skeletal muscle atrophy is common across a variety of pathologies. Underlying mechanisms of atrophy differ between pathologies, and in many conditions, circulating factors are tied to muscle atrophy.

Safety Evaluation of Serendipity Berry Sweet Protein From Komagataella phaffii

open access: yesJournal of Applied Toxicology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Serendipity Berry Sweet Protein (sweelin) is a novel hyper‐sweet thermophilic protein designed using Artificial Intelligence Computational Protein Design (AI‐CPD) to improve the stability and sensory profile of the protein found in serendipity berry (Dioscoreophyllum cumminsii).

The Effects of Simulated Microgravity on Serum Levels of VEGF in Male Wistar Rats [PDF]

open access: yesفصلنامه علوم و فناوری فضایی, 2017
Endothelial cells differently respond to microgravity condition. The evolution of these responses leads to a more clear understanding of cardiovascular diseases in both gravity and micro-gravity conditions.

Allergenicity, Genotoxicity and Subchronic Toxicity Assessment of IgG Binding Protein LT Produced From Aspergillus oryzae

open access: yesJournal of Applied Toxicology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Gastrointestinal health is one of the fastest growing areas in the food and beverage industry, as its importance to overall health and well‐being is becoming increasingly recognized. Immunoglobulins play a key role in protecting the gastrointestinal tract, and nonbovine sources of immunoglobulins (including camel milk, which has a long history

Muscle protein and glycogen responses to recovery from hypogravity and unloading by tail-cast suspension [PDF]

open access: yes
Previous studies in this laboratory using the tail-bast hindlimb suspension model have shown that there are specific changes in protein and carbohydrate metabolism in the soleus muscle due to unloading.

Leucine Supplementation Counteracts the Atrophic Effects of HDAC4 in Rat Skeletal Muscle Submitted to Hindlimb Immobilization

open access: yesMuscle &Nerve, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Introduction/Aims We previously demonstrated that leucine supplementation significantly reduces histone deacetylase 4 (HDAC4) expression induced by hindlimb immobilization, thereby attenuating the increase in HDAC4 protein levels and nuclear accumulation.

Mature and Juvenile Neuromuscular Plasticity in Response to Unloading. [PDF]

open access: yesDev Neurobiol
ABSTRACT The neuromuscular junction (NMJ) is the synapse that enables the requisite electrical communication between the motor nervous system and the myofibers that respond to such electrical stimulation with movement and force development. Changes in an NMJ's normal activity pattern have been demonstrated to remodel both the synapse and the myofibers ...

Growth hormone secretion during space flight and evaluation of the physiological responses of animals held in the research animal holding facility [PDF]

open access: yes
The spaceflight of the Research Animal Holding Facility (RAHF) on the Space Laboratory 3 (SL 3) provided the opportunity to evaluate the suitability of the RAHF for housing and maintaining experimental animals during spaceflight, and to determine changes

Role of endoplasmic reticulum stress in disuse osteoporosis [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
Osteoporosis is a major skeletal disease with low bone mineral density, which leads to an increased risk of bone fracture. Salubrinal is a synthetic chemical that inhibits dephosphorylation of eukaryotic translation initiation factor 2 alpha (eIF2α) in ...
