Muscle mass measurements in hip fracture patients and control general population depending on dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry device used: The General Electric Lunar and Hologic systems

open access: yesOsteoporosis and Sarcopenia, 2020
Objectives: The prevalence of sarcopenia, an independent risk factor for fragility fractures, is high in geriatric hip fracture patients. We aim to compare patients with hip fractures to the general population using different dual-energy X-ray ...

Dual mobility total hip arthroplasty for salvaging failed internal fixation for neck of femur fractures

open access: yesJournal of Orthopaedics, Trauma and Rehabilitation, 2020
Internal fixation is commonly used to treat fractures in the hip. However, failure of proximal femoral fracture fixation is common and treated with total hip replacement (THR). The aim of this study is to present our midterm results of dual mobility (DM)

Testosterone Delays Bone Microstructural Destruction via Osteoblast‐Androgen Receptor‐Mediated Upregulation of Tenascin‐C

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This study reveals that Testosterone–Androgen Receptor signaling delays elderly male bone destruction by upregulation of the osteoblastic extracellular tenascin‐C (TNC). The osteoprotective effect of fibrinogen C‐terminus of TNC is demonstrated in male osteoporotic mice model that osteoblast‐specific Ar‐knockout, potentially via inhibition of ...

Dopamine D1 Receptor Contributes to Glucocorticoid‐Associated Osteonecrosis of Femoral Head Protection Through the ATF3/CHOP Axis to Inhibit Osteoblastic Apoptosis

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This work identifies a novel mechanism by which dopamine D1 receptor (DRD1) contributes to the pathogenesis of glucocorticoid (GC)‐associated osteonecrosis of the femoral head (ONFH) through the regulation of osteoblastic apoptosis, indicating that DRD1 serves as a critical mediator of the crosstalk between the nervous and skeletal systems.

Dual-mobility socket in challenging total hip arthroplasty : 2-6 years follow-up. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
The success of dual-mobility sockets in achieving implant stability in primary hip replacement is already well established. However, stability cannot always be achieved, especially when dealing with more difficult indications.

Prevalence of Vertebral Fractures in Osteoporotic HIP Fractured Patients: The Focus Study [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
Osteoporosis is a multifactorial systemic skeletal disease, characterized by low bone mass and microarchitectural modifications of bone tissue, with a consequent increase in fragility fractures.

Targeting Hyperglycemic Bone Pre‐Metastatic Niche for Breast Cancer Bone Metastasis Therapy

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This study reveals that breast cancer creates a hyperglycemic pre‐metastatic niche in bone prior to colonization and amplifies glucose metabolism post‐metastasis. To target this mechanism, a biomimetic enzyme‐engineered nanoplatform that disrupts tumor glycolytic pathways, proposing a therapeutic strategy to inhibit breast cancer bone metastasis by ...
