The role of cell size in shaping responses to oxygen and temperature in fruit flies

open access: yesFunctional Ecology, Volume 37, Issue 5, Page 1269-1279, May 2023., 2023
Read the free Plain Language Summary for this article on the Journal blog. Abstract The body size of an animal is strongly coupled to key ecological traits such as fecundity, mortality and growth. Ectothermic animals mature at smaller body sizes in warmer conditions and under low oxygen availability (hypoxia).

Nocturnal dissolved organic matter release by turf algae and its role in the microbialization of reefs

open access: yesFunctional Ecology, Volume 36, Issue 8, Page 2104-2118, August 2022., 2022
Read the free Plain Language Summary for this article on the Journal blog. Abstract The increased release of dissolved organic matter (DOM) by algae has been associated with the fast but inefficient growth of opportunistic microbial pathogens and the ongoing degradation of coral reefs.

Current development and future perspective of IDH1 inhibitors in cholangiocarcinoma

open access: yesLiver Cancer International, Volume 3, Issue 1, Page 17-31, February 2022., 2022
Abstract Background and Aims Biliary tract cancer (BTC) represents a major public health problem due to its increasing rates of incidence and mortality, especially the intrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma (IHCCA) subtype. First line palliative systemic treatment with cisplatin and gemcitabine has been the unique level IA evidence option until last few years

Neuropeptides in the developing human hippocampus under hypoxic–ischemic conditions

open access: yesJournal of Anatomy, Volume 239, Issue 4, Page 856-868, October 2021., 2021
Hypoxia‐ischemia during the perinatal period could damage the hippocampal interneuron populations which might lead to the appearance of different problems during subsequent development. Interneurons containing Somatostatin and Neuropeptide Y located in the hippocampal ammonic fields are affected differently, although there is a global reduction after ...

Treatment of Miller I Mandibular Gingival Recessions Using PRF vs. Connective Graft

open access: yesInternational Journal of Dentistry, Volume 2021, Issue 1, 2021., 2021
Gingival recession (GR) can cause aesthetic and functional problems. Using connective tissue graft (CTG) and coronally advanced flap (CAF) is considered the technique of choice for treating GR. Considering the morbidity resulting from taking CTG, different alternative biomaterials have been described, including plasma‐rich fibrin (PRF) membrane ...

Effect of oxygen‐producing suture material on hypoxic colonic anastomoses in an experimental model

open access: yesBJS Open, Volume 3, Issue 6, Page 872-881, December 2019., 2019
Anastomotic leak remains a significant problem after colorectal surgery, and administration of supplemental perioperative oxygen has been shown to improve healing of colorectal anastomoses. The manufacture of an oxygen‐producing suture material is described; experiments showed that it improved some aspects of the healing of bowel anastomoses.

PEROXIDAÇÃO LIPÍDICA E ATIVIDADE DA SUPEROXIDO DISMUTASE EM JUVENIS DE JUNDIÁ (Rhamdia quelen) EXPOSTOS A DIFERENTES NÍVEIS DE OXIGÊNIO DISSOLVIDO

open access: yesCiência Animal Brasileira, 2008
Peixes são freqüentemente expostos a episódios de hipóxia ambiental e fisiológica, e usualmente produzem níveis elevados de espécies reativas de oxigênio.

Hypoxia–ischemia is not an antecedent of most preterm brain damage: the illusion of validity

open access: yesDevelopmental Medicine &Child Neurology, Volume 60, Issue 2, Page 120-125, February 2018., 2018
Brain injury in preterm newborn infants is often attributed to hypoxia–ischemia even when neither hypoxia nor ischemia is documented, and many causative speculations are based on the same assumption. We review human and animal study contributions with their strengths and limitations, and conclude that – despite all the work done in human fetal ...

Updated and New Perspectives on Diagnosis, Prognosis, and Therapy of Malignant Pheochromocytoma/Paraganglioma

open access: yesJournal of Oncology, Volume 2012, Issue 1, 2012., 2012
Malignant pheochromocytomas/paragangliomas are rare tumors with a poor prognosis. Malignancy is diagnosed by the development of metastases as evidenced by recurrences in sites normally devoid of chromaffin tissue. Histopathological, biochemical, molecular and genetic markers offer only information on potential risk of metastatic spread.
