Hipparion in Luotuo Hill, Dalian, and evolution of latest Hipparion in China
Quaternary International, 2021Some Hipparion specimens from Jinyuan Cave, Luotuo Hill, Dalian is reported in the present research. The specimens from Pleistocene strata are large-sized ones include two forms. One has complicated folds in fossettes, pli caballine with two or more branches, elongated oval protocone, has been identified as Hipparion (Proboscidipparion) sinense; the ...

Earliest known Hipparion from Holarctica
Nature, 1977THE three-toed horse Hipparion was ubiquitous in terrestrial mammalian faunas throughout Holarctica during parts of the Miocene. This report describes Hipparion from the early Barstovian Fleming Formation of the Texas Gulf Coastal Plain. These specimens are assigned to Hipparion because of dental characters such as the diagnostic presence of isolated ...

Remains of Hipparion (Equidae, Perissodactyla) from Puente Minero (Teruel Province, Spain) and their implications for the systematics of the Turolian Hipparionini [PDF]
Morphological and biometrical variability of the equid Hipparion from Puente Minero and other localities from the Teruel Basin, Spain (MN10–MN13), is analysed. Three species of Hipparion are recognized in Puente Minero, H. laromae, H.

NEW SPECIES OF HIPPARION FROM LA ROMA 2 (LATE VALLESIAN; TERUEL, SPAIN): A STUDY OF THE MORPHOLOGICAL AND BIOMETRIC VARIABILITY OF HIPPARION PRIMIGENIUM [PDF]
Morphological and biometrical variability is analyzed in Hipparion primigenium (V. Meyer) from four Vallesian and Turolian locations in Spain (Masía de Barbo, Puente Minero, Nombrevilla, and Los Valles de Fuentidueña). Previously unstudied remains of Hipparion from La Roma 2 (Teruel Province, Spain) are described and tested by multivariate analysis ...

International Geology Review, 1966
The evolution and distribution of flora that flourished during the time of the middle Miocene to Pleistocene Hipparion fauna is outlined. Owing to the vast geographic range of the fauna, extendfrom Spain to the Pacific and from southwestern Siberia and Transbaylcalia to central Africa, summary of the flora involves the discussion of several different ...

The Hipparion of the Rhone valley
Geobios, 1974Abstract A revision is given of the Rhone valley Hipparion . One new species is described from Montredon. It is noted that in the lower Vallesian localities one big heavily built Hipparion is present. In the late Vallesian a medium sized Hipparion with short limbs is found; in the Turolian a slender form of medium size and perhaps also a heavy ...

The hipparions of the Baringo Basin sequence
Nature, 1975THE first appearance of Hipparion in land mammal populations of the northern hemisphere is one of the best documented biochronological events of the Neogene: the genus appeared first in the Mediterranean world about 12.5 Myr ago1. In France2 its first appearance was during the Middle–Upper ‘Helvetian’ (ante-‘Tortonian’).

The Pannonian C hipparions from the Vienna Basin
Palaeogeography, Palaeoclimatology, Palaeoecology, 2017Abstract The “Hipparion” Datum has been recognized as being a key geochronologic marker for early late Miocene Eurasian and African horizons. The Vienna Basin Pannonian C hipparions are the stratigraphically oldest (basal MN9, ca. 11.4–11.0 Ma), and we contend herein, the most primitive of all Old World hipparions.
