Feed-forward inhibition in the hippocampal formation

Progress in Neurobiology, 1984
An overview of the current literature reveals a richness and complexity of anatomical, pharmacological and physiological features of the input systems to the archicortex. Evidence is cited to demonstrate that several afferent paths terminate on and directly excite hippocampal formation interneurons ("non-principal" cells) besides their contacts with ...

Cell biology of the hippocampal formation in schizophrenia

Biological Psychiatry, 1999
The hippocampal formation (HF) has been a centerpiece of neuropathologic investigations of schizophrenia. Numerous MRI studies have demonstrated a slight bilateral reduction in HF volume. Reports of reduced N-acetyl aspartate measured with in vivo proton spectroscopy suggest that neuronal pathology exists.

Normal Anatomy and Neurophysiology of the Hippocampal Formation

Journal of Clinical Neurophysiology, 1992
This article reviews the anatomy and neurophysiology of the normal hippocampal formation, with emphasis on the human hippocampus. The hippocampus receives inputs from numerous limbic, cortical, and subcortical areas, primarily via the entorhinal cortex and subiculum.

The Hippocampal and Septal Formations in Anurans

1966
The present paper represents the results of a morphologic study of the medial hemisphere wall of the forebrain of the tailless amphibians. In an earlier publication concerned with the telencephalon of anurans (Hoffmansc, 1963), the hippocampal and the septal formations were identified and some of their connections reported.

Neuromorphic VLSI realization of the hippocampal formation

Neural Networks, 2016
The medial entorhinal cortex grid cells, aided by the subicular head direction cells, are thought to provide a matrix which is utilized by the hippocampal place cells for calculation of position of an animal during spatial navigation. The place cells are thought to function as an internal GPS for the brain and provide a spatiotemporal stamp on episodic
