Hippurate hydrolysis by Campylobacter fetus

Journal of Clinical Microbiology, 1980
An additional method for differentiating between Campylobacter fetus subsp. jejuni and C. fetus subsp. intestinalis is reported. Strains of C. fetus subsp. jejuni (18/20) were shown to hydrolyze hippurate in the 2-h rapid test, whereas strains of C. fetus subsp. intestinalis did not.

Urinary excretion of hippuric acid by man

Journal of Applied Physiology, 1961
A simplified scheme for interpretation of urinary hippuric acid excretion data in terms of consecutive irreversible first-order processes is presented. The rate of excretion of endogenous hippuric, uric, and glucuronic acids is constant under the conditions of the experiments. The average value for the excretion constant KE for exogenous hippuric acid

Use of methenamine hippurate in male infertility

Urology, 1975
In sperm-freezing for infertility patients with low sperm counts, we found that semen containing high numbers of white blood cells, greater than 15 to 20 per high-power field, was both poor in quality and difficult to freeze. In examining these patients carefully, we found that many had smoldering prostatitis and some an overt history of prostatitis ...

Identification of hippurate-negative thermophilic campylobacters

Diagnostic Microbiology and Infectious Disease, 1999
Twenty-eight thermophilic campylobacter isolates showing negative hippurate hydrolysis were further characterized. Using Campylobacter jejuni and coli specific primers for ceuE gene, five of the isolates with repeatedly negative results in rapid hippurate hydrolysis were positive in C.

Methenamine Hippurate (Hiprex)

2019
Since as early as the 1970s, Methenamine hippurate (Hiprex) has been used in the prevention of recurrent urinary tract infections [1]. Hiprex works via two pathways [2].

Quantitative hippurate renography.

Annales chirurgiae et gynaecologiae, 1985
Effective renal plasma flow (ERPF) was determined by registration of 131I-hippurate radioactivity over the heart and calculation of the disappearance constants after fitting a three-exponential function to the measured time-activity curve. Right and left kidney ERPF was calculated both by a method of tangents and a new method of summed pulses from the ...

Coffee and Hippuric Acid

2015
It has been reported that coffee intake results in an elevation of hippuric acid (HA) concentration in urine. Among the phenolic compounds in coffee, chlorogenic acid (CGA) is a major substance, metabolized to HA in the human body. In the metabolism of CGA, the colonic microflora play an important role, and there is large inter-individual variation ...
