Characterization of a new toxin from the entomopathogenic fungus Metarhizium anisopliae: the ribotoxin anisoplin [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
Metarhizium anisopliae is an entomopathogenic fungus relevant in biotechnology with applications like malaria vector control. Studies of its virulence factors are therefore of great interest.

Conidioogenous cell differences among mutant and wild-type pathotypes of Hirsutella thompsonii var. thompsonii

open access: yesJournal of Invertebrate Pathology, 1984
Abstract Two mutants with different conidiogenesis were isolated from wild phatotypes of Hirsutella thompsonii var. thompsonii collected from the citrus rust mite in Florida. One mutant ( WSI ) produces more typical single-neck phialides and conidia than the wild type.

A Locally Isolated Entomopathogenic Fungus to Control Tea Red Spider Mites (Oligonychus coffeae Acarina -Tetranychidae)

open access: yesTropical Agricultural Research, 2011
Mites are considered as seasonal pests in tea. They cause significant damage to the crop during dry weather. However, the restrictions imposed by tea importers on pesticide residues in made tea pose an immediate need to identify alternative control ...

Influence of fluid dynamic conditions on 1,3-propanediol production from glycerol by Shimwellia blattae: Carbon flux and cell response [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
The fluid dynamic conditions play a key role in the development and scaling up of bioprocesses. In aerobic cultures, oxygen is an essential substrate for microbial growth, production and culture maintenance; an effective gas-liquid transfer must be ...

Hirsutellin A: A Paradigmatic Example of the Insecticidal Function of Fungal Ribotoxins

open access: yesInsects, 2013
The fungal pathogen Hirsutella thompsonii produces an insecticidal protein named hirsutellin A (HtA), which has been described to be toxic to several species of mites, insect larvae, and cells.

Pathogenicity, Ovicidal Action, and Median Lethal Concentrations (LC50) of Entomopathogenic Fungi against Exotic Spiralling Whitefly, Aleurodicus dispersus Russell

open access: yesJournal of Pathogens, Volume 2013, Issue 1, 2013., 2013
Biological control using entomopathogenic fungi could be a promising alternative to chemical control. Entomopathogenic fungi, Beauveria bassiana (Balsamo) Vuillemin, Metarhizium anisopliae (Metschnikoff) Sorokin, Lecanicillium lecanii (Zimmerm.) Zare and Gams, and Paecilomyces fumosoroseus (Wize) Brown and Smith, were tested for their pathogenicity ...
