Distribution of Placobdella hollensis (Whitman, 1892) (Hirudinida: Glossiphoniidae)
Comparative Parasitology, 2017ABSTRACT: Confusion regarding the identification of Placobdella hollensis (Whitman, 1892) (Hirudinida: Glossiphoniidae) has led to an unclear understanding of the distribution of the species. Two specimens of P. hollensis were collected from Merchants Millpond State Park, Gates County, North Carolina, U.S.A., representing a new geographic distribution ...

Redescription ofPlacobdella papilliferaVerrill, 1872 (Hirudinida: Glossiphoniidae)
Bulletin of the Peabody Museum of Natural History, 2013ABSTRACT The identification and taxonomy of Placobdella papillifera (Verrill, 1872) Moore, 1952 have been blurred by its varieties and have been compounded by the apparent lack of type material. Leeches collected from May 2008 through August 2012 from West River, New Haven, New Haven County, Connecticut, the type locality of Clepsine papillifera ...

Barbronia weberi (Clitellata, Hirudinida, Salifidae) has ovary cords of the Erpobdella type
Journal of Morphology, 2013ABSTRACTThe organization of the ovaries in representative of the Salifidae (Hirudinida, Erpobdelliformes) was studied at the ultrastructural level for the first time. Like in other leeches, the ovaries of Barbronia weberi are composed of an outer envelope (i.e., an ovisac made up of two coelomic epithelia, muscle cells, and connective tissue) and ...

Body form of leeches (Hirudinida: Piscicolidae) parasitizing fishes.
Wiadomosci parazytologiczne, 2010The body form of leeches, which becomes a modeling object, is a valid ectosomatic feature. It describes borders, in which, we can find internal organs of an individual. The range of realization of the body form, proposed for different groups of leeches, characterize their life spaces.

Placobdella pediculataHemingway, 1908 was originally described from individuals that were attached to Aplodinotus grunniens (freshwater drum) in Lake Pepin, Minnesota, USA. Apparently, no type material was deposited. The acquisition of contemporary specimens from its type host in the type locality facilitated redescription of P. pediculata. Placobdella

Gametogenesis in the leech Asiaticobdella buntonensis (Meyer, 1951) (Hirudinidae)
African Zoology, 2017The gametogenic cycle of the leech, Asiaticobdella buntonensisfrom two localities was investigated and found to be simultaneously hermaphroditic. Spermatogenesis reached a state of maturation before oogenesis in a cycle of summer reproductive maturation and winter quiescence comparable to related Hirudinidae.

Leeches (Hirudinida: Piscicolidae)--parasites of Antarctic fish from Channichthyidae family.
Wiadomosci parazytologiczne, 2009There has hitherto been very few research projects focusing on ectoparasites of Antarctic fishes. The presently reported study provides data on the prevalence and the intensity of leeches (Hirudinida: Piscicolidae) infecting fishes. The materials were collected in December-February 1986/87 off the Elephant Island, South Georgia, Joinville Island, and ...
