Molecular diagnosis of parasitic worms in leeches (Hirudinida)
2023Molecular diagnosis was applied to identify parasitic worms in leeches, which are intermediate hosts and possibly participate in the transmission of parasites in molluscs, fishes, and birds. The knowledge of molecular diversity and taxonomic affiliation of the parasites occurring in leeches remains poorly known.

Phylogeny of the leech family Erpobdellidae (Hirudinida : Oligochaeta)
Invertebrate Taxonomy, 2002The phylogenetic relationships of the family Erpobdellidae, a group of non-sanguivorous leeches useful as bioindicators, were investigated with the combined use of morphological characters, mitochondrial cytochrome c oxidase subunit I, mitochondrial 12S rDNA and nuclear 18S rDNA.

A New Species of Mysidobdella (Hirudinida: Piscicolidae) from Mysids along the California Coast
Journal of Parasitology, 2012Mysidobdella californiensis n. sp. is described from the mysid Holmesimysis sculpta from Bodega Bay on the central California coast and from Holmesimysis costata var. from San Pedro on the southern California coast. The internal anatomy of M. californiensis is similar to that of the only other species in the genus, Mysidobdella borealis from the north ...

Barbronia weberi (Clitellata, Hirudinida, Salifidae) has ovary cords of the Erpobdella type
Journal of Morphology, 2013ABSTRACTThe organization of the ovaries in representative of the Salifidae (Hirudinida, Erpobdelliformes) was studied at the ultrastructural level for the first time. Like in other leeches, the ovaries of Barbronia weberi are composed of an outer envelope (i.e., an ovisac made up of two coelomic epithelia, muscle cells, and connective tissue) and ...

Body form of leeches (Hirudinida: Piscicolidae) parasitizing fishes.
Wiadomosci parazytologiczne, 2010The body form of leeches, which becomes a modeling object, is a valid ectosomatic feature. It describes borders, in which, we can find internal organs of an individual. The range of realization of the body form, proposed for different groups of leeches, characterize their life spaces.

Gametogenesis in the leech Asiaticobdella buntonensis (Meyer, 1951) (Hirudinidae)
2017The gametogenic cycle of the leech, Asiaticobdella buntonensisfrom two localities was investigated and found to be simultaneously hermaphroditic. Spermatogenesis reached a state of maturation before oogenesis in a cycle of summer reproductive maturation and winter quiescence comparable to related Hirudinidae.

Biological diversity of leeches (Clitellata: Hirudinida) based on characteristics of the karyotype.
Wiadomosci parazytologiczne, 2009The majority of studies on leeches are related to: internal and external morphology. Fewer molecular research projects focus on molecular studies and karyology. The latter are needed to explain the evolutionary and systematic issues. Karyotypes for 22 species of Hirudinida have hitherto been determined, including: 8 species belonging to the ...
