Fast label-free multilayered histology-like imaging of human breast cancer by photoacoustic microscopy

open access: yesScience Advances, 2017
A photoacoustic microscope system provides label-free multilayered histology-like imaging of unprocessed human breast specimens. The goal of breast-conserving surgery is to completely remove all of the cancer.

Keratin 19 as a prognostic marker and contributing factor of metastasis and chemoresistance in high‐grade serous ovarian cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Keratin 19 (KRT19) is overexpressed in high‐grade serous ovarian cancer with high levels of Kallikrein‐related peptidases (KLK) 4–7 and is associated with poor survival. In vivo analyses demonstrate that elevated KRT19 increases peritoneal tumour burden.

Intra-operative point-of-procedure delineation of oral cancer margins using optical coherence tomography. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
ObjectivesSurgical margin status is a significant determinant of treatment outcome in oral cancer. Negative surgical margins can decrease the loco-regional recurrence by five-fold.

Dual PI3K/AKT and CDK4/6 inhibition reveals selective sensitivity in an SHH medulloblastoma stem cell model

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Targeted therapy was evaluated in SHH medulloblastoma using neuroepithelial stem cell (NES) and tumor‐derived NES‐like (tNES) models in 2D monolayers and 3D spheroids. PI3K, AKT, and CDK4/6 inhibitors had minimal effects in NES but markedly reduced viability and growth and induced apoptosis in tNES cells, revealing distinct therapeutic vulnerabilities.

Study of Sperm Parameters and Sperm Fertility in Mice were Exposed to Tamoxifen during Embryonic Development

open access: yesMajallah-i Dānishgāh-i ’Ulūm-i Pizishkī-i Shahīd Ṣadūqī Yazd, 2017
Introduction: Tamoxifen is steroidal drug, which mainly treats breast cancer and also used to stimulate ovulation. The purpose of the present study was the evaluation of sperm parameters and fertility of mice whose mothers had received tamoxifen during ...

Deciphering transcriptional plasticity in pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma reveals alterations in sensory neuron innervation

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Pancreatic sensory neurons innervating healthy and PDAC tissue were retrogradely labeled and profiled by single‐cell RNA sequencing. Tumor‐associated innervation showed a dominant neurofilament‐positive subtype, altered mitochondrial gene signatures, and reduced non‐peptidergic neurons.

Berberine Alleviates Lipopolysaccharide-Induced Impairments in Neuroplasticity and Spatial Memory by Modulating Microglial Polarization via MAPK Signaling Inhibition

open access: yesNeural Plasticity
Neuroinflammation-induced cognitive impairment is characterized by a continued decline in memory, executive functioning, and information-processing abilities. Although berberine (BBR) exhibits anti-inflammatory and neuroprotective properties, its ability

Few Shot Learning in Histopathological Images:Reducing the Need of Labeled Data on Biological Datasets [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
Although deep learning pathology diagnostic algorithms are proving comparable results with human experts in a wide variety of tasks, they still require a huge amount of well annotated data for training.

Discrepancy analysis comparing molecular and histology diagnoses in kidney transplant biopsies

open access: yesAmerican Journal of Transplantation, 2019
Discrepancy analysis comparing two diagnostic platforms offers potential insights into both without assuming either is always correct. Having optimized the Molecular Microscope Diagnostic System (MMDx) in renal transplant biopsies, we studied ...
