Method for Automated Cartilage Histomorphometry
Tissue Engineering, 1999We have developed and tested a color-based method for automated computerized histomorphometric analysis of cartilage. Histological sections stained with safranin O from 29 rabbit periosteal agarose-cultured explants were selected with various amounts of cartilage (0-100%).

Automated trabecular bone histomorphometry
Bone, 1985The toxicity of alpha-emitting bone-seeking radionuclides and the relationship between bone tumor incidence and the local dosimetry of radionuclides in bone are investigated. The microdistributions of alpha-emitting radionuclides in the trabecular bone from the proximal humerus, distal humerus, proximal ulna, proximal femur, and distal femur of six ...

Bone histomorphometry and bone quality
Osteoporosis International, 2009Although PTH(1–34) and PTH are now approved as anabolic therapies for osteoporosis, much remains to be learned about their mechanisms of action and how they interact with antiresorptive agents. In 1995, Pierre Delmas and his colleagues published a landmark paper [1] in which histomorphometric analysis was used to explore the effects of combined ...

Bone histomorphometry in Cushing’s syndrome
Journal of Endocrinological Investigation, 1992Bone involvement is a common finding in Cushing's syndrome. The actions of corticosteroids on bone have been studied quite intensively but only a few studies of bone histomorphometry in this syndrome have been published. In this paper we present histomorphometric measurements of bone activity in 7 patients with a postoperative reevaluation in two.

Bone histomorphometry in hemod alysed patients
Metabolic Bone Disease and Related Research, 1981We performed bone histomorphometry in thirty hemodialysed patients. Ten patients had a double iliac bone biopsy to estimate bone histomorphometry reproductibility. There was no difference between the mean results for each of the 10 patients at each site.

Bone Histomorphometry in Male Idiopathic Osteoporosis
Calcified Tissue International, 2009The pathogenesis of male osteoporosis at the cellular level is still elusive. We performed histomorphometric analysis of bone biopsy samples from 51 eugonadal men with idiopathic osteoporosis. Their median age was 54 (range 29-73) years. Eighty-two percent of the patients had a fracture history, and 57% had vertebral fractures.

Bone histomorphometry remains an important tool with which to study the pathophysiology of bone disease and the cellular mechanism by which treatments work. Here we review the methods for embedding, sectioning, staining, and analysis of bone sections in rodents.

Bone Histomorphometry in Arthritis Models
2007Rodent arthritis models are tools to study joint destruction. This chapter describes methods to prepare and analyze histological sections from inflamed paws. Protocols to create decalcified paraffin-embedded as well as undecalcified plastic-embedded sections are provided.

Bone Histomorphometry in Renal Osteodystrophy
Seminars in Nephrology, 2009On bone biopsies from patients with chronic kidney disease, measurements are made of the turnover, mineralization, and volume. Turnover depends on the bone formation rate and bone resorption rate; the former can be measured using tetracycline labelling. The osteoid width and bone apposition rate determine the mineralization rates.
