Histoplasma Capsulatum Epididymitis
Journal of Urology, 1981We report 2 cases of epididymal histoplasmosis. In 1 patient an epididymal abscess was the sole manifestation of histoplasmosis and in the other an epididymal abscess occurred with paratracheal lymphadenopathy. Although uncommon histoplasmosis can cause symptomatic genitourinary tract disease and must be differentiated from tuberculosis, tumors and ...

Histoplasma capsulatum sinusitis
Journal of Clinical Microbiology, 1997Sinusitis is commonly reported in patients with AIDS. In addition to the usual bacterial pathogens isolated from immunocompetent patients, sinusitis in patients with AIDS may be caused by a variety of unusual bacteria, viruses, fungi, parasites, and mycobacteria. Histoplasma capsulatum has not typically been associated with sinusitis in either group of

Histoplasma capsulatum endocarditis
American Heart Journal, 1980Endocarditis is a rare manifestation of disseminated Histoplasma capsulatum infection. A 22-year-old man presented with a seven month history of fever, weight loss, and progressive aortic insufficiency. The diagnosis of H. capsulatum was suggested by a diagnostic rise in complement fixation titers and positive echocardiographic findings.

Nutritional studies of histoplasma capsulatum
Mycopathologia et Mycologia Applicata, 1965A chemically defined medium, composed of inorganic salts, glucose, asparagine, cystine, and a vitamin supplement, has been devised for growth of the yeast phase ofHistoplasma capsulatum. Growth in this medium was abundant and compared favorably with that in media containing complex natural material.

Immunological studies on Histoplasma capsulatum
Infection and Immunity, 1975Alveolar macrophages freshly harvested from normal and immunized rabbits were parasitized with yeast cells and protoplasts of Histoplasma capsulatum. Macrophages obtained from either normal or sensitized rabbits failed to phagocytize protoplasts, whereas, the yeast cells were actively ingested.

Chemical composition of Histoplasma capsulatum
Mycopathologia et Mycologia Applicata, 1972The chemical composition of yeast and mycelial cells of three strains ofHistoplasma capsulatum was analyzed and is expressed as per cent dry weight. Cultures were grown in a liquid synthetic medium, mycelial cells at 25°C and yeast at 37°C on gyrotory shakers. After 7 days, deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA), ribonucleic acid (RNA), and protein were higher in

Pericarditis caused by histoplasma capsulatum
The American Journal of Cardiology, 1976Sixteen patients with pericarditis caused by Histoplasma capsulatum were studied. Fourteen were less than 30 years old, and no patient had an underlying illness or was receiving immunosuppressive therapy. All patients experienced a flu-like prodromal illness lasting from 2 weeks to 4 months.

Histoplasma Capsulatum in the Eye
Ophthalmology, 1984The ocular pathologic findings in an immunosuppressed patient who died of disseminated histoplasmosis are described. Histoplasma capsulatum was found in large numbers within the endothelial cells of the choroid, in one area each of the ciliary body and trabecular meshwork. There was a minimal inflammatory response. No granulomas were noted.
