Younger (mean age = 20) and older (mean age = 64) adults were asked to recall the dates and make recency judgments for historical events that occurred in each of three time periods between 1862 and 1977. The present paper analyzes the results of a survey performed in 2008 by the Spanish center for sociological investigation (CIS) about contemporary perceptions of the 1936-39 civil war. It shows that the period of political maturation of an individual as a young adult has a dominant influence upon his representation of the conflict.
